General Manager for 9 Bookstores in Marin, Sonoma and Napa Counties

Copperfield's Books, with stores in Sonoma, Marin and Napa counties, has an immediate opening for the General Manager position, running the operations and marketing divisions of our multi- store business.

Copperfield's just celebrated its 43rd anniversary and is one of the premier independent bookstores in the country.

Previous bookstore management required. Familiarity with Basil POS system or equivalent required.

SUMMARY : The General Manager is responsible for all aspects of Copperfield's Books, Inc. operations. That person will plan, direct and coordinate various aspects of the Bookstores, Marketing, Purchasing, Warehouse and Events. The General Manager will ensure that operations run smoothly and will coordinate the mangers of these departments to ensure the company reaches its operational and financial goals.

The manager reports to the President.

The General Manager position is one that requires a combination of skills, experience and education, and that person will have superior leadership skills, work well with a team, as well as have the ability to work independently with little or no supervision. The candidate must have excellent decision-making skills, problem-solving skills and conflict-management abilities. They must have a thorough knowledge of the company, its culture and its products and services. They must also be able to work will all levels of management and have accomplished training and delegation abilities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have a minimum of five years management experience and a bachelor’s or masters degree in a related field of study. Have a knowlege of the bookselling business.

COMPUTER SKILLS: Fluency in Excel and regular usage of Google Doc’s.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Strong command of the English language
