McCampbell Analytical Inc. is seeking a Material Scientist with experience in naturally occurring Asbestos analysis. Applicants should have educational and/or professional experience using polarized light microscopy (PLM). Experienced analysts may qualify for routine part-time work. Instrumental experience using XRD, XRF, FTIR, and SEM, can be extremely helpful for other aspects of this Material Science position.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Preparation and analysis of soil for asbestos content using PLM (Polarized Light Microscopy).
Determination of percentage and optical properties of asbestos and non-asbestos material by point counting and optical mineralogy methods.
Record data in a specified manner including laboratory information systems.
Maintain and troubleshoot equipment when needed
Perform quality control (QC) practices per company requirements.
Additional analyses typically include forensic work /identification of unknowns using XRD, XRF, FTIR, SEM and microscope examination. Accredited (AIHA) testing includes respirable silica, respirable dust, total dust, chlorine in oil and microplastic analysis.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in Science: Geology, Geochemistry, Environmental Science, and/or Chemistry background is required.
Light microscopy, optical mineralogy/petrographic experience is required.
For part-time work a minimum of one year asbestos work experience analyzing samples using PLM is required.
Laboratory experience either in academic or commercial settings is a plus.
Candidate must be able to distinguish colors to perform asbestos analysis.
Work independently and with a team
Able to work in a fast-paced setting, multi-task, and prioritize assignments.
Good communication skills, computer experience (Microsoft Office), typing skills, and organizational skills.
