McCampbell Analytical, Inc. (MAI), a full-service environmental analytical laboratory located in Pittsburg, CA (SF Bay Area) is seeking a GC-HRMS chemist to analyze dioxins and PCB congeners.

We are seeking a full-time, skilled chemist to join our team for a shift Monday through Friday.

The position available is for an intermediate-level GC-MS Chemist with the competence to learn

HRMS or, alternatively, a GC-HRMS chemist with experience operating Waters Autospec

Premier and/or Thermo DFS mass spectrometers to work in the High-Resolution Mass

Spectrometry Department. The selected individual will be responsible for all aspects of our

HRMS department.

This position reports to the Laboratory Manager and our Technical Supervisor.

Responsibilities And Duties:

The candidate is responsible for instrument operations, preparing standards, calibration, analyses of samples, and data review and reporting as well as overseeing HRMS extractions. A willingness to troubleshoot and perform routine maintenance on the instruments such as cleaning sources, replacing GC inlet components, install new columns is a must, and the ability to perform higher-level diagnostics and repair is a plus. The candidate provides guidance and works closely with technicians performing sample extraction and cleanup. Excellent communication with colleagues, supervisors, and project managers is expected.

Analyses are performed in compliance with EPA methods 1613B, 8290A, and 1668C for Dioxins, Furans and PCB Congeners. Samples submitted are tested within appropriate hold times for all types of environmental matrices (drinking water, wastewater, soils, and other matrices). Other methods may be added in the future as required by market conditions and are only limited by analyst abilities.

Currently, this department is staffed by a single analyst overseeing one extractionist and thus, the candidate needs to be highly competent and responsible and be able to work independently. The position offers exciting challenges and excellent growth opportunities.

Qualifications:

A four-year college degree in chemistry or other closely related science.

The candidate will have working laboratory experience and a sophisticated lab skill set.

Clear and concise communicator.

Assume full responsibility for the HRMS department including data quality, method compliance, instrument maintenance, extraction oversite, and department improvements.

Multi-tasking is essential in the lab environment along with attention to detail in completing all tasks.

Excellent organizational and time management skills.

Familiarity with MS Excel and a Laboratory Information Management (LIMS) database would be preferred.

Good to excellent mechanical & troubleshooting skills

Ability to work independently as well as a Teamwork-driven personality with a strong work ethic and desire to learn.
