The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Agricultural Research Service (ARS), Pacific West Area is seeking highly qualified candidates for a minimum of 2 years, with possible extension of 2 additional years full-time, Postdoctoral Research Associate (Research Microbiologist, Immunologist, or Research Molecular Biologist) for the Western Regional Research Center, Foodborne toxin detection and prevention Unit in Albany, California. Salary is commensurate with experience ($85,508 to 102,489 per annum) plus benefits. The incumbent will carry out independent projects that include but not limited to developing new assays for detection of foodborne toxins present in different food matrices and use conventional and innovative methodologies to reduce food contamination with toxins and toxigenic microbes. Objectives include generating recombinant proteins and establishing cell lines suitable for functional studies. The incumbent will also participate in preparation of reports, patents, and manuscripts. A recent Ph.D. (Doctoral Degree received within the last 60 months) in Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Immunology, or a closely related field is required. Knowledge of microbial culture, tissue culture, PCR, cloning, protein expression, antibody-based assays, and experience in working with small animals are desirable.
