Position Summary
Big Daddy's Motor Cars LLC is seeking an experienced Automotive Paint Preparation Technician to carry out paint preparation work to the absolute highest standards on our Classic Mustang vehicles. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, filing, grinding, and sanding to precise standards, and conducting quality assurance inspections and revisions prior to our advanced paint application process.
The ideal candidate will have 4 or more years of experience prepping custom and/or restored automobiles for the high-end paint application process. The candidate will have experience using various hand and power tools to file, sand or grind different materials such as steel, carbon-fiber/composite and/or fiberglass to provide an impeccable surface for paint application. The candidate must also have a high attention to detail, adhere to high standards and work well in a dedicated team environment where everything is important.
Essential Functions
Clean and inspect vehicle for any flaws or imperfections prior to painting.
Prep vehicles for paint application and ensure quality assurance to precise company standards.
Properly fill depressions with body filler and ensure a quality repair.
Carefully and accurately mask any areas that are not meant to be painted.
Use hammers/dollies to fix minor metalwork.
File, grind, and sand repaired surfaces, using power tools and hand tools.
Replace bolts on panels and align properly.
Maintain proper care and organization of tools and equipment for minimum painting downtime.
Follow proper operating rules, procedures, and standardized work-flow.
Partner and provide clear communication with other team members and departments involved in the vehicle reconditioning process.
Maintain a clean and productive work environment by keeping tools and supplies organized throughout the Paint Department.
High attention to detail and organization.
Ensure all environmental permit conditions, tracking data and hazardous waste is handled according to regulations and company policy.
Must have a growth mindset to learn and accept constructive feedback.
Must be able to wear and properly use required PPE.
Required Education/Experience
High School Diploma or GED
Four (4) or more years of experience in paint preparation for high end luxury automobiles, hot rod or restoration shops
Preferred Education/Experience
Familiarity with preparing High End Classic Cars for paint
Familiarity with preparation for a wide range of coatings.
Relevant automotive paint certifications are a plus
