Automotive technician / mechanic (Japanese specialist)

We’re Art’s Automotive, a Japanese-only dealer alternative in Berkeley, CA. We do all types of automotive work from basic maintenance to more advanced diagnostic work dealing with networks, programming, automotive locksmithing, ADAS, and more. Plus, we do everything in-between. If you’d like to learn more about our shop, check out some of the articles on our website – https://www.artsautomotive.com

We’ve been in business for over 44 years and we’re a very stable employer. We currently have 12 employees who have worked with us anywhere from 3 to 39 years. On average, our employees have been with us 20 years. We have a very low turnover.

We’re looking for a skilled technician. Ideally, you’d have a certificate from an automotive program or an AS degree, ASE certification, and experience in the field. If you can’t check all the boxes but think you might be a good fit come and talk with us anyway. Personality and aptitude are more important to us than certificates.

You will be required to have an adequate tool set for the work you do. We will provide OEM scan tools and OEM service information as well as Alldata, Identifix and Motologic. We have a nice shop and good shop equipment.

As mentioned, we do almost everything, so there’s room for us to adjust your assignments to your strengths. However, we’re looking for someone capable of continuing to learn and improve. Cars aren’t going to get any simpler. Even “simple” R&R work requires some new skills these days. We’re looking for someone who is already grounded in the basics but wants to grow into a true master in all areas.

Compensation will reflect your skill set and efficiency. We’ll pay you what you’re worth and your rate will increase as your value increases. We also offer medical, dental, and a matching retirement contribution.

We pay for training classes, and we value a commitment to continuing education. Art either buys or makes lunch on Fridays and we usually hang out on Friday nights to wind down from the week (although it’s not required).
