Overview

The main objective of Lead CNC Operator is to lead the Digital Fabrication Department in all aspects of production. This includes guiding files through the entire CNC production process, programming tool-paths, loading materials, inventory of substrates and consumables, Quality Control, labeling, and direct communication with the rest of the team.

The CNC Operator is also responsible for the safe operation and maintenance of the CNC Router and Epilog Laser Cutter used in Digital Fabrication. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with programming and operating CNC specific software. We are a custom fabrication company, and rarely make the same thing twice!

Proven ability in Programming and Operating CNC Software and Machining; excellent work ethic, including attention to detail, time management, workflow management, self-motivation, and interpersonal communication skills; ability to collaborate and work as part of a team; flexible schedule, including weekends and evenings as necessary. Other duties may include department and team development as needed. It is also very important to communicate effectively the status of an assignment in regards to meeting deadlines and quality standards.

We are looking for a full time, in-house engagement. We operate 9-5:30, but would consider slightly earlier or later scheduling for the right candidate

Reports To: Production Manager

Shared Responsibility For: CNC Machine, Asana (Job Queue), Slack, etc.

Primary Responsibilities

Read and understand 2D and 3D Digital Designs

Enter all relevant codes to specify the feed, speed, and cut of any toolpath for a CNC or Laser Cutter

Create cut files for internal fabrication team and external vendors

Set up machinery for production

Measure and verify all calculations prior to cutting material

Maintain a clean and organized working environment

Complete routine maintenance of the machinery

Manage their schedule and deliverables

Communicate Job Status with Project Teams

Essential Skills and Experience

5+ Years of experience with CNC, Laser & 3D Printing a plus

Programming Pathways and Tools for CNC

Detail-oriented and professional demeanor

Clear and concise written and spoken communication skills

Shop Sabre CNC experience is desired

Ability to Train other on programming and CNC process

Knowledge of wood, steel, aluminum, acrylic, foam, and plastic materials for CNC

Proficient in VCarve, Adobe Suite, G-suite, Asana, Correl, and other design software.

Personal Attributes & General Requirements

Ability to lift 50 pounds to carry equipment and supplies as needed

Indoor warehouse environment with moderate to heavy noise

Understands the responsibility of protecting oneself and crew from hazards and toxic materials by using safety equipment such as skin, eye, hearing and breathing protection.
