I have a shop space that’s roughly 500sf in San Rafael near civic center. The shop is partially setup, I have a bunch of tools, some nicer than others, setup in the shop, but it's generally a working shop.
Why I have this shop space:
I’m an architect, I grew up with a full millwork shop at my home which my father operated and I worked at in my teenage years. I now live here in Marin, I have an architecture firm and I leased and started to build out this shop space for hobby purposes and potentially to work with my architecture firm. I envisioned the space as both an art studio (there is a mezzanine that I built out for the art studio) and a millwork shop to produce exterior architectural components and potential for other items like interior millwork and cabinetry. I had always envisioned this space and the use of it as a “millwork lab” for my architecture firm to build mock-ups for our design details.
What I’m looking for:
I’m fully funding and have this shop and art space, but I rarely use it. I would like to find someone with an entrepreneurial spirit that would use the millwork shop and work with me on projects and with my architecture firm in some capacity. This could be as an employee, or you're a current business owner or aspiring business owner partnering or “consulting” for me.
Our company office on the east coast currently has a millwork shop attached to the architecture firm (www.cchonline.com). I’m in the process of potentially setting up this same business here in Marin, where architectural millwork would be produced in tandem with our architecture projects.
What you might be doing:
Building mock ups for details on our projects
Building cabinetry or furniture
Building exterior architectural millwork components as a satellite shop for our east coast millwork shop
Doing your own projects (cabinetry, furniture, etc)
Helping me to tackle different millwork or carpentry projects around my home in Marin
Qualifications I’m looking for:
You must have some real millwork or carpentry experience
This needs to align with your professional aspirations, I’m not looking for a hobbyist
You need to have some type of portfolio showing work you’ve done, or a resume and references that I can call to show your experience and qualifications
An entrepreneurial spirit or an interest in running your own business is a plus
If you currently work for someone but are looking to start your own business this could be a good fit (either a millwork shop or general contracting business)
A general contractors license would be a plus as well, but not a necessity
Generally organized and respectful. This would be a situation where we are sharing this space and I want someone who understands this and is respectful of the space.
If you’re interested:
Please send me a cover letter or an email, your resume and a portfolio of your work with pictures. Also explain why you’re interested. This opportunity is available immediately, the space is there with tools ready to be used.
