Position: Instructor/Work Coordinator - the GROWTH Project
Hours per week: 28 hours
Description: The instructor will be responsible for teaching and training adults with mental health challenges in landscaping, horticulture, and ground maintenance. The instructor will create and revise curricula and facilitate the development of student skills and knowledge commensurate to the goals of the course. The instructor will lead a classroom training followed by a paid work experience for the participants. The work will primarily be conducted in outdoor and indoor areas of the Department of Public Health and Behavioral Health Services sites, as well as at our community partners’ sites, including but not limited to; Mt Sutro Stewards, the San Francisco Botanical Garden, and San Bruno mountain. The employer is the San Francisco Study Center. The salary is $30.00 per hour.
Summary of Job Duties:
utilizes a variety of effective and professional teaching techniques and methods that assist students in attaining the performance objectives of the course
prepares and submits a course of study including course objectives, student performance objectives, and daily lesson plans
prepares and submits a program budget not to exceed the amount and types of expenditures set forth in the program’s approved budget
responsible for making requests for materials and supplies, as well as acquiring materials or arranging deliveries necessary for classroom and worksite activities
develops appropriate student performance objectives to be achieved while enrolled in this course and develops reports assessing progress
at the completion or termination of a student's training, submits a report of the total number of hours of training the student received and the related skills achieved
collaborates with Citywide Case Management Programs and other program partner agencies in the preparation of materials and program planning
accurately and punctually submits all forms and information needed for attendance and accounting
works closely with GROWTH’s employment specialist to craft and facilitate job training workshops, and assists in job placement activities
facilitates the care of several garden sites and indoor plant installations throughout San Francisco including managing the GROWTH Advanced employee who maintains the sites
maintains good working relationships with staff at Department of Public Health and Behavioral Health Services sites
attends staff meetings and other meetings as required
performs other related duties as requested
Desired Qualifications:
High school diploma or its equivalent and at least two years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience in the field of horticulture and landscaping instruction
Preferred Qualifications:
BA/BS degree
Possession or qualification for a California Vocational Education Teaching
Credential authorizing instruction in Nursery, Landscaping or Grounds Maintenance
Certified Master Gardener

Knowledge of:
