Organization: The Storybook School, Inc. (TSS), established in 2016, is a private program which provides services to children from 2 years through 12 years of age. Our program is located in the Sunset/Parkside district. We offer a bilingual environment, where children have the opportunity to learn Chinese, in addition to English. We teach using a relationship based model following the emerging interests of the children.
Job Summary: This is a new part-time position. Our school seeks a responsible candidate with a clean driving record who will be responsible for transporting children and managing general maintenance of our 12 passenger school van. This is a new position at our school, and may evolve as time progresses, and with the right fit. To start, we will need someone to pick up school-aged children in the afternoons from a variety of schools, and transport them to the afterschool program. There are 1-2 days a week where the driver will drive the children to a play space after pick up. Ideally, the driver will be able to manage the children, enjoys being around children, and can support the teachers as needed.
Summary of Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
-Available Monday -Friday Afternoons 3-4 hour shift to start (no nights or weekends)
-Driver must be punctual, have patience, and be able to read and interpret maps both digitally and printed.
-Drive students from school to afterschool site safely, to field trips, and special events using a designated route
-Manage routine vehicle maintenance and conduct pre/post-trip inspections
-Maintain regular records for mileage, fuel levels, tire pressure levels, and check fluid levels.
-Provide support to students and teachers by assisting with boarding, securing seat belts and 5 point harnesses, and exiting the van.
-All Other Duties as Assigned
Qualifications:
-Driving Proficiency: Efficient navigation and timely route management are required. Confident and experienced drivers only. We drive minivans and small cargo vans and provide some practice and training.
- Have maintained a clean and valid driver’s license for at least 2 years
-At least 21 years old and able to provide a Moving Vehicle Report (MVR) from DMV
-Be subject to a drug screening as needed
-Have a Clean Criminal Record/Fingerprints required
-Must Pass a Health Screening
Desirable Qualities:
First aid/CPR Certified
Speaks Cantonese or Mandarin
Experience with children and managing groups of school-age children.
References of driving skills
Able to Lift at Least 35 Pounds
