SevenPonds.com, a website and online magazine that offers tools, resources and information about end of life, is looking for a remote editor for our magazine. Additionally the position will involve some content creation.
This is a remote editing contract position. The ideal candidate will have a background in creative writing, journalism or online content creation, editing and a working knowledge of WordPress and AP Style. Or have a background in thanatology or some other aspect of an end of life profession. An excellent command of English grammar, punctuation and syntax is a must.
SevenPonds is not your usual website. We cover topics that, in many ways, are still taboo in our society subjects like death and dying, aging, life-limiting illness, grief and loss. For that reason, we seek out an expert who has some special insight into the end of life, whether through personal experience or through their work. Writing skill and expertise are important to us but a passion for our genre is a must. The ideal candidate will be compassionate and feeling. Additionally a strong sense of organization and structure is critical to the role. If you have knowledge in any aspect of death & dying we’d love to hear from you.
This position involves managing our 5 to 6 magazine writers including the first and secondary editing process. Overseeing the schedule, deadlines, appropriate articles topics and images, preventing conflict of interest between the magazine and content, annual editorial calendar, securing experts to interview, overseeing the style guide, adding more feature articles, reviewing our traffic algorithms and editing. On occasion some reworking of an article may be necessary. Both tackling and embracing AI is part of our new agenda. Accountability and dedication is paramount to the role. Content creation will be limited as a side project.
Pay for the Managing Editor Role is $400 a month. In the months leading up to our new website launch the pay along with additional work is $1,000 a month. Once the new website is launched we will reduce the role to Managing Editor. This position begins in the new year.
