Court Appointed Special Advocates of Siskiyou County (CASA) is a private, nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting the rights of children who have been removed from their homes because of severe or chronic child abuse or neglect.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Supervises and supports a case load of volunteer child Advocates and coordinates casework activities. Works directly with the Juvenile Court, attorneys and social workers representing abused children. Also assists with recruiting, training and retention of volunteers.

DUTIES

• Provide support and supervision for volunteer child Advocates through monthly phone calls and at least twice yearly face-to-face conferencing

o Assist Advocates with understanding how to get started, best practices and helpful community resources

o Assist Advocates in the development of goals and a case plan for the child.

o Assist Advocates in identifying services that are lacking in the child's life.

o Assist Advocates in implementing and revising case plans, approaches, goals, and action steps

o Problem solve with Advocates concerning aspects of their cases

o Assist with the preparation of reports for Juvenile Court and the development of recommendations related to placement, education, medical needs, and the emotional and behavioral well-being of the child as appropriate

• Serve as liaison with social workers, attorneys, care providers and others

• Work with Program Assistant to maintain case records and computerized data

• Assist Program Director with on-going in-service training for continuing volunteers

• Assist Program Director in screening and training of new volunteers

• Attend staff and case supervision meetings

• Provide support for volunteers attending specialized meetings for child

• Manage specialized program components or projects as assigned

• Monitor performance of Advocates and arrange counseling meetings as needed followed by recommendations regarding continued participation in the program

• Assists in program development and fund raising events and activities

• Additional duties as requested

QUALIFICATIONS

• Ability to pass background check and good driving record

• Undergraduate degree in Social Work or related field (Sociology, Psychology, Human Services etc.)

• Excellent written and oral communication skills

• Computer skills

• Knowledge of child abuse and the child welfare system

• Experience as a volunteer or supervising volunteers

• Valid Drivers license
