Lead Maintenance/Custodial/Grounds - School District

The San Miguel Joint Union School District is currently hiring for a Lead Maintenance/Custodial/Grounds position to perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks to ensure that school facilities, grounds, and equipment are maintained in a clean, safe, and orderly condition. This position leads and coordinates the work of custodial staff, assists in training new employees, and provides general maintenance and groundskeeping support throughout the district. The incumbent also performs minor repairs, maintains equipment, and may serve as a substitute bus driver as needed.

Duties include:

Cleans classrooms, offices, restrooms, hallways, and other school facilities, including floors, fixtures, windows, sinks, and surfaces.

Operates cleaning equipment such as vacuums, carpet cleaners, tile strippers, polishers, brooms, mops, and related tools safely and efficiently.

Uses appropriate cleaning solvents and chemicals according to safety guidelines.

Replenishes cleaning and restroom supplies as needed.

Mows, edges, and maintains lawns, fields, and landscaped areas.

Trims trees, shrubs, and hedges; removes weeds and debris.

Maintains and repairs sprinkler and irrigation systems.

Makes minor repairs, replacements, or adjustments to campus and grounds equipment.

Performs basic maintenance and repairs on district buses and vehicles as assigned.

Serves as a substitute bus driver when required.

Coordinates and assists custodial staff with daily assignments and special projects.

Trains and mentors new custodial staff in proper cleaning techniques and safety procedures.

Maintains inventory of custodial, maintenance, and grounds supplies and equipment.

Ensures compliance with all district, state, and federal safety regulations.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent

Must pass DOJ/FBI fingerprint clearance (background check required prior to employment)

Ability to perform physical labor, including lifting and operating cleaning equipment

Reliability, punctuality, and attention to detail

Leadership or supervisory experience desirable.

Valid California Class B Commercial Driver’s License required or willingness to obtain upon hire.

This is a full-time, Monday - Friday position
