Junior Architect Designer

Principal Responsibility: The Junior Designer is an entry-level design professional who provides support on architectural projects while developing their own skills and experience. Junior Designers work on a variety of tasks, from drafting and 3D modeling to research and documentation, all under the supervision of more senior team members. They are key team players who assist in turning ideas and sketches into detailed drawings and visualizations, and they handle many of the routine aspects of project work with diligence and enthusiasm. The Junior Designer reports to project leaders and is expected to be proactive in learning, contributing creatively where possible, and keeping project deliverables organized. This position offers broad exposure to the design process and is a foundation for growth into higher-level roles.

Position Reports To: Project Architect, Architect or Design Coordinator (as assigned)

Position Supports: Designer, Interior Designer, Project Managers, Design Coordinator, Architect

Junior Designer Responsibilities:

1. Produces drafted drawings, digital models (e.g. developing BIM models in Revit or creating renderings), and other graphic representations based on instructions from senior team members, ensuring accuracy in scale and detail.

2. Assists in developing design presentation materials by creating diagrams, annotating plans, and helping layout presentation boards or slides; contributes to renderings and image editing as needed to visualize design concepts.

3. Conducts basic research on building codes, zoning regulations, materials, and products; compiles data and presents findings to the team to inform design decisions and ensure compliance with technical requirements.

4. Helps maintain project files and documentation, updates drawing sets with redlines or revisions provided by architects/designers, and keeps logs of changes to ensure team members are working with the latest information.

5. When required, participates in site visits or surveys with senior staff to document existing conditions (taking measurements, photographs, notes) and assists in preparing existing-condition drawings or site reports from this data.

6. Maintains open communication with supervisors, seeking clarification on assignments when needed and providing regular updates on progress; promptly flags any issues or delays that could impact the project timeline. Letter Four, Inc. Page 1 of 2

7. Juggles multiple tasks (potentially across different projects), prioritizes work as directed, and consistently meets deadlines; learns to estimate the time needed for tasks and improve efficiency through experience.

8. Embraces opportunities to learn new design software, visualization techniques, and firm standards; incorporates feedback from mentors to improve work quality and expand capabilities, demonstrating growth over time.

Junior Designer Authority:

Within established budgets, the Junior Designer has the authority to:

1. Draft and model design components as assigned using firm-standard tools and templates

2. Research materials, codes, and zoning information under direction from senior staff

3. Prepare visual aids and diagrams for use in client presentations

4. Request clarification and provide updates on assigned tasks proactively

5. Participate in internal design reviews and contribute creative input when invited

6. Record notes from site visits or client meetings when delegated by senior team members

7. Maintain and organize shared digital folders, project logs, and sample libraries for assigned projects
