PROJECT SURVEYOR:
MBS Land Surveys is seeking a Project Surveyor. This position includes both field and office responsibilities. This work will include performing large scale boundary and topographic surveys within San Luis Obispo and northern Santa Barbara Counties. The ideal candidate will be able to perform projects independently, including records research, preliminary calculations, field work, office CAD drafting, budget review and product delivery.
Minimum Qualifications:
Professional Land Surveyor, PLS is preferred or Land Surveyor in Training Certificate, LSIT.
Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Land Surveying or related field, with courses in geometry and trigonometry is preferred.
5-10 years of surveying experience (with a combination of field and office).
At least 5 years of experience as survey party chief performing boundary, topographic, and ALTA surveys.
Knowledge of standard surveying methods and procedures (checking and verifying control).
California Driver`s license and a clean driving record.
Responsibilities Include:
Perform boundary surveys independently, and monitor progress against the project budget and deadlines
Perform PLSS (public lands) surveys, including reading and interpreting GLO field notes, searching for bearing trees, rock mounds, posts, topographic calls, and other accessories called for in the GLO field notes.
Maintain working relationships with clients, property owners and contractors in a professional manner.
Provide mentoring and training for other field crew members
Familiarity with state laws governing survey practice (LS Act and Subdivision Map Act)
Work in a team environment
Required Field Skills:
Operation and setup of Trimble S6 total stations
Operation and setup of Trimble R10 and 12 GPS systems for base and rover.
Understanding of calibrations
Expert knowledge of field data collection software, including TDS and Trimble Access
Ability to operate a drone and software desirable, but not required
Required Office Skills:
Expert knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D software, including surface creation, 3D modeling and point management
Preparation of legal descriptions
Computer skills with Microsoft Office Suite and Excel
Use of Trimble Business Center software for GPS post processing
Knowledge of static data processing and adjustments using NGS ground control and/or CORS stations
Expert knowledge of calibrations using existing horizontal and vertical control monuments
Preparation of Record of Survey maps and corner record maps
Preparation of topographic maps
Preparation of control maps for other consultants (i.e. aerial subconsultants)
Knowledge of Pix 4D software desirable, but not required
Utilize public source data for topography (LiDAR and orthophoto)
Ability to adapt to company CAD standards
Handle corrections and revisions to maps to satisfy agency requirements prior to recording
Monitor project budgets
Physical requirements:
Ability to hike and cut brush in steep terrain
Ability to carry up to 20 pounds of equipment
Ability to work in hot weather (up to 100 degrees) for long periods
Tolerance to poison oak (common on the central coast)
Ability to safely operate and maintain chain saws

Pay Range: Survey project manager: $50-65 per hour, depending upon experience. Prevailing wage rates paid for publicly funded projects are based on current prevailing wage schedule.
