Test Equipment Design Engineer

Job description

The Test Equipment Design Engineer will work alongside our lab and engineering team to design custom test equipment for bulk solids handling applications. Our San Luis Obispo employees work in a one-of-a-kind facility with lab space and on-site fabrication facilities for building prototype and production test equipment.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Design custom equipment for bulk solids testing and prototyping for diverse industries ranging from pharmaceutical to mining.

Work as part of a team with bulk solids consultants and lab technicians.

Work with vendors and fabrication shops to follow designs from CAD to finished equipment.

Use SolidWorks and AutoCAD to produce 3D models and 2D drawings to shop fabrication level.

Design and program data acquisition and control equipment.

Engineering analysis of mechanical and machine design.

Take on other duties as directed.

Required Skills & Abilities:

Excellent written and verbal communication and documentation skills.

Ability to work independently towards the timely completion of work.

Excellent mechanical design and problem-solving skills.

Experience with micro controllers, PLC controls and data acquisition hardware and software.

Experience with rapid prototype manufacturing.

Ability to communicate with vendors and shop floor workers to solve problems.

Electromechanical design experience.

Understanding of industrial controls.

Education & Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from accredited program - Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering

Minimum of 2 years of experience.

Other Requirements:

Days of work are Monday through Friday. Hours of work are typically between 8:30 a – 5 p, or as approved by supervisor. This position periodically requires additional hours beyond a 40-hour work week.

Occasional travel (2-3 times per year) visiting other offices (US and abroad).
