Pathology Laboratory Technician, Full Time, San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara
The Pathology Laboratory Technician is responsible for the front-end, pre-analytical operations in their department. As they also serve as public relations members of the laboratory team, the ability to maintain appropriate professionalism in a stressful and unpredictable working environment is essential. Under appropriate levels of supervision, the Pathology Laboratory Technician assignments include processing biopsy tissue specimens for frozen section preparation, assisting the pathologist with case assembly, using the Laboratory Information System (LIS) for specimen accessioning and pathology report retrieval, and providing client service to our providers.
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
Willingness and ability to work cooperatively with peers at the laboratory and other institutions
Ability to follow instructions and work independently with minimal supervision
Manual dexterity sufficient to perform laboratory work
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
Computer proficiency including ability to type accurately, use email, MS Excel, MS Word and to learn new programs as necessary including laboratory information systems
Travel to our multiple locations is essential
Qualifications and Experience:
Preferred: Pathology/histology/cryostat experience or comparable training and experience, such as clinical laboratory experience, that provides skills to perform the job tasks competently. Medical office experience and other types of laboratory experience also considered.
Must have a valid California Driver License and maintain an acceptable driving record.
Associate Degree or higher in biological science or chemistry preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Must be capable of occasional strenuous physical work including standing for up to 2 hours at a time
Using a computer for lengthy periods
Standing/walking for extended periods of time
Bending, squatting, and walking stairs
Safely lifting and carrying 30 lbs
Starting Pay: $26/hour, DOE
