Job Summary:
We are seeking a part-time Dental Hygienist to join our dental team, with potential for full-time. The hygienists on our team play a critical role in proactive dental healthcare and education.The ideal candidate has a passion for dental hygiene, is a good communicator, and will provide the highest quality care to our patients and assist in promoting good oral health practices.
Our hygienists are given 1 full-hour per recall patients (prophylactic/perio maintenance) and/or 1 hour per quadrant of SRP. We have two of the most amazing full-time dental assistants who are very familiar with our hygiene protocol and running sterilization.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care and Assessment:
Conduct oral health assessments, including reviewing medical histories, taking vital signs, and inspecting the oral cavity for signs of disease.
Perform oral cancer screenings, periodontal charting and evaluations.
Preventive Services:
Provide professional teeth cleaning (prophylaxis), including scaling, root planing, and polishing.
Apply fluoride treatments and dental sealants to prevent decay.
Radiography:
Take digital dental X-rays to aid in diagnosis.
Ensure radiation safety protocols are followed.
Patient Education:
Educate patients on proper oral hygiene practices, including brushing, flossing, and dietary recommendations.
Discuss the importance of regular dental check-ups and preventive care.
Clinical Duties:
Assist the dentist during examinations and dental emergencies.
Administer local anesthesia as needed
Maintain sterile and organized treatment areas.
Record Keeping:
Document patient care, treatments, and progress in dental records accurately and promptly.
Collaborate with dental team members to develop comprehensive care plans.
Compliance and Continuing Education:
Stay current with state dental hygiene regulations and industry best practices.
Participate in continuing education courses to maintain licensure and enhance professional skills.
Qualifications:
Education: Associate degree in dental hygiene from an accredited program; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Licensure: Current California Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH) license.
Certifications: CPR & lifesaving certification. Current knowledge of OSHA, HIPPA & Infection Control. Additional certifications for administering local anesthesia may be required. Laser certification is a plus.
Experience: Prior experience in a dental office setting is preferred but not mandatory for entry-level positions.
Proficiency: Dentrix or similar dental records system. Knowledge of dental coding and terminology.
Familiarity: Cosmetic dentistry, Implant dentistry, Invisalign or clear aligner orthodontics.
Competency: Excellent communication skills. Stamina to meet the physical demands of the job description. Taking vital signs and interpreting digital imaging results. Strong understanding of health, safety and infection control best practices. Willingness to learn and grow.
