Brough Construction, Inc., a General Engineering Contractor is hiring Class A Licensed Truck/Lowbed Driver. Position based on the Central Coast with travel to the Central Valley.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Operate heavy equipment in a safe and efficient way according to company policies and procedures

Perform daily safety and maintenance checks

Clean heavy equipment as scheduled and/or required

Ensure heavy equipment is safely and securely stored

Participate in routine maintenance

Ensure that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed

Bring problems to the attention of the Superintendent or President

Ability to work independently and follow verbal/written instructions

Experienced and industrious Commercial Driver with a stellar record of customer satisfaction

Knowledgeable and mindful of all safety concerns pertaining to vehicle operation

Completed and submitted bills of lading to management on a daily basis

Loaded and secured vehicles and equipment for transport

Completed all appropriate transport documentation

Reported all major and minor vehicle damage to management as required

Maintained exterior and interior cleanliness of transport vehicles

Major Duties and Responsibility

Must be available to work with the demands of the department which are subject to overnight shifts, weekends, and holidays

Applicants need to have a clear 10 year driving record, a DOT driving Medical Examiner's Certificate, and be drug free.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Truck drivers provide an essential service. Truck drivers are also responsible for inspecting their vehicles for mechanical items or issues relating to safe operation

Drivers haul an assortment of large bulky items. A few examples are tanks, steel pipes and lumber. Drivers require the ability to balance the load correctly

Drivers must maintain a daily 24-hour logbook Record of Duty Status documenting all work and rest periods. The record of duty status must be kept current to the last change of duty status and records of the previous 7 days retained by the driver in the truck and presented to law enforcement officials on demand

Candidate must be at least 21 years of age

Candidate must have Commercial Driver's License (CDL) for tractor trailer operation

Candidate must have a good driving record for past 39 months

5+ year tractor trailer experience

Extensive hands-on experience with hydraulic trailer operation

Strong familiarity with DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations and procedures

Good ability to lift up to 75 pounds without assistance or equipment

Exceptional abilities at map-reading and understanding directions

Good ability to bend stoop and reach overhead

JOB SKILLS

When the truck breaks down, the driver must know some basic repair skills. He or she should know how to deal with the unique traits of a diesel engine and how to change a tire Know how to connect and disconnect the tractor (the cab) from the trailer

A truck driver is expected to drive long hours, keeping track of them in the truck's logbook Heavy equipment safety

Operation of front end loaders, dozers, graders, compactors, excavators and other pieces of heavy equipment

Equipment maintenance and storage

Workplace safety requirements and procedures

Equipment cleaning standards and procedures

Must be able to lift, push, pull or carry objects, use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue and to effectively jump, sprint or throw an object

Requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multi-limb coordination

Used forklifts hand trucks and other material handling equipment safely and efficiently.

Double-checked all received materials for order quality and accuracy.

Performed unscheduled and last-minute deliveries

Completed time records maintenance reports and all other required paperwork. Performed required daily vehicle maintenance and cleaning

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 100 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

May be required to work Saturday and Sunday; working occasionally on evenings, weekdays and holidays

Possession of a valid Class A driver's license. Must possess and maintain a satisfactory driving record and be insurable to operate vehicles, will be on the DOT pull notice program, subject to random drug testing

Reliable attendance

Fit for duty; ability to sit, stand, walk, lift 50+ lbs. in the course of the work day

Must be able to work flexible hours with varying start and stop times. Overtime work will be required as needed by the company

Must be able to read and write in English

Must have reliable transportation and excellent attendance

Ability to work in extreme heat or cold, work outside, working in outside conditions, sometimes wet conditions

Ability to stay hydrated, know the signs and symptoms of heat stroke, heat exhaustion

and hypothermia

EDUCATION

High School Diploma or GED preferred

Heavy Equipment Mechanical Experience a plus

At Least 5 years as a Class A Licensed Truck Driver

PAY

Prevailing Wage and Private scale ($30-40 an hour depending on experience).

Heavy equipment mechanic skills a plus
