Background
The Food Bank Coalition of San Luis Obispo County is a nonprofit, tax-exempt organization. We serve our neighbors who are food insecure, not knowing where their next meal will come from, as well as those at potential risk of hunger. Each year we supply an average of 4 million pounds of food to residents in San Luis Obispo County through a network of agency partners including food pantries, homeless shelters and school-based programs. We believe every human being has the right to nutritious food, which is why 50% of the food we distribute is fresh produce. Job Overview
Under the supervision of the Nutrition Program Manager, the Nutrition Program Coordinator promotes individual and community health by implementing community health education activities for individuals and/or groups, assists with recruitment and training of volunteers and interns, and provides administrative coordination to Nutrition and Childrens Programs, such as planning and implementation of the Summer Breakfast Bag Program and Childrens Farmers Markets.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Prepares, obtains and distributes health information through individual client contacts and/or workshops, seminars, reports, bulletins, pamphlets, posters, exhibits, news releases, radio scripts, and other communication methods.
Collaborates with other agencies for resources and support, and works to maintain cooperative working relationships with partnering agencies and organizations interested in nutrition education.
Collects, tracks, and analyzes data; participates in evaluating the effectiveness of program materials and methods to meet grant guidelines.
Plans, organizes and participates in health information and educational programs, conferences and meetings. Assists with the planning, implementation, and administrative coordination of Childrens Programs, including Summer Breakfast Bags and Childrens Farmers Markets.
Assists with recruitment, training, and management of volunteers and interns.
Knowledge, Skills, Talents, & Abilities
Familiar with the principles, methods, and practices of health information, promotion, education, and information dissemination.
Experience with training, assessment, and evaluation techniques.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school officials, parents, students, community groups, agencies, local media, county employees, and/or clientele.
Develop and maintain positive working relationships; communicate and work effectively with others.
Use basic and advanced computer software to conduct business and communicate.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Customer/client service, outgoing and willing to engage people in a public setting.
Excellent organizational and time management skills with high attention to detail.
Ability to handle multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
Flexible hours with ability to work some nights and weekends
Develop and deliver wellness and nutrition education classes and healthy cooking demonstrations.
Ability to work independently.
Respect for the diversity of the population served by the Food Bank and ability to work effectively with a low-income, multicultural population.
Bilingual (Spanish, English) preferred.
Education and/or Experience
18 years of age or older
High School Diploma or equivalent
Must have a passion for health, wellness and nutrition education
Must be comfortable working in a kitchen environment and be able to prepare food according to the approved recipes using safe food handling procedures
Experience teaching nutrition and/or culinary education classes preferred
1-3- years of experience working in health promotion/community outreach preferred
Bilingual (Spanish, English) preferred
Additional Information
Must possess a valid California Drivers License
Must have a reliable vehicle, clean driving record, and proof of insurance
Must be willing to travel throughout San Luis Obispo County

Variable work environment; work is conducted both indoors and outdoors with varying environmental conditions; indoor facilities kept at cold temperature, so warm clothing is required. Noise level varies from quiet office environment to very noisy warehouse. Forklift exhaust and dust will be present in the warehouse.
