Residential Adult Counselors are expected to function as positive role models and treat clients with respect and empathy. They also promote trauma informed cooperation and harmony in the communal living situation and uphold and promote the social rehabilitation philosophy in all duties performed.
HOURS
Full-time, 40 hours per week.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma or equivalent. A minimum of 1 year, full-time experience working in a program serving people with mental disabilities is preferred. Strong interpersonal skills, collaborative work style and strong oral and written communication skills. Well defined organizational and time management skills. Ability to work independently and flexibly. Ability to handle intense situations, display good judgment and decision-making skills, and remain calm and clearheaded under pressure. Able to work effectively with a variety of people and personality types regardless of age, ethnicity, race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression or socio-economic level. Must use reasonable precautions in the performance of one’s duties and adhere to all applicable safety rules and practices while acting to assure at all times, maximum safety to one’s self, fellow employees, clients, and other persons contacted through TMHA. Conditions of employment include: Must be at least 18 years of age; possess a valid CA Driver’s License, at least 2 years driving experience, reliable transportation, proof of auto insurance, and DMV driving record that meets TMHA’s current vehicle insurance requirements. May be required to utilize personal vehicle and auto insurance. Ability to possess and maintain good physical and mental health. Attendance is an essential function of this job that requires face-to-face interaction with clients and/or other employees. Comply with a skin test or chest x-ray indicating a negative tuberculosis result and a fit for duty health screen. Must provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination or request an exemption based on a documented medical condition advising against the vaccine or a strongly held religious belief or practice per the California Department of Public Health. Those who qualify for an exemption will be required to test for COVID-19 once per week and send the results to TMHA’s Human Resources Director. Receipt of a criminal record clearance through fingerprinting. Must be able to successfully complete First Aid and CPR training.
