Music Director Job Description – Updated February 2024
Year-round, part-time position; typically 8-10 hours/week
$300 per week / $15,600 annually
Reports to Lead Pastor; Interface with Diaconate Board
Purpose:
· Facilitate and/or lead a variety of vocal and instrumental presentations in worship services from piano and/or guitar, with commitment to and consideration for the diversity of our congregation, and the spiritual component of music in worship. Typically one hour service setting.
Qualifications:
· Ability to read music notation, chord charts, and play piano and/or guitar.
· Knowledge and experience at or near professional levels for vocal and instrumental leading.
· Knowledge of sacred music (contemporary and traditional), and willingness to occasionally incorporate inspirational secular songs.
· Choral directing/coaching ability and experience a plus
Responsibilities:
· Work closely with pastor, church staff, and lay participants.
· Plan, lead, facilitate, and support PCC’s music and musicians as required for
worship and special services (Christmas, Easter, memorials, etc.)
· Direct and schedule year-round weekly music selections and presentations in consultation with the pastor, musicians, choir, and other participants.
· Commitment to blended service/music style, with equal attention to the preparation, quality, and style of both contemporary and traditional offerings.
· Communicate program and participant needs in a timely and clear manner with pastor, church committees, staff, and music participants.
· Respond to emails, texts, and phone calls within two business days.
· Attend Sunday morning, seasonal, and other special services; monthly church
staff meeting; and other meetings/events as required.
· Complete necessary HR/internal training (e.g., Mandated Reporter)
· Oversee the care and maintenance of church music equipment, and communicate needs via email to pastor and Diaconate board.
· Seek out and encourage individuals and groups of diverse abilities (church members and friends, guests) to participate in worship music.
· Schedule substitute worship music leader for time off.
