Driving School Instructor – Job Description
Position Summary:
A Driving School Instructor teaches students the knowledge and skills required to become safe, responsible, and confident drivers. This role involves delivering both classroom-based instruction and hands-on, behind-the-wheel training while following all local driving laws, testing standards, and school policies.
Key Responsibilities
Provide behind-the-wheel driver training for new and experienced drivers.
Deliver classroom lessons on traffic laws, defensive driving techniques, vehicle operation, and road safety.
Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback to improve skills.
Teach students how to handle various driving conditions (night driving, highway, parking, weather conditions).
Maintain accurate records of student attendance, lesson progress, and performance.
Ensure all training vehicles are safe, clean, and compliant with regulations.
Prepare students for written, vision, and road tests.
Uphold safety protocols and model safe driving at all times.
Communicate effectively with students and, when applicable, their parents/guardians.
Stay updated on changes to traffic laws and licensing requirements.
Qualifications
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
State-approved Driving Instructor Certification (requirements vary by region).
High school diploma or equivalent (some schools prefer post-secondary education).
Previous teaching, coaching, or customer-service experience is an asset.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Patience, professionalism, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends, if required.
