Joins, fabricates, and repairs metal and other weldable material by applying appropriate welding techniques. Interprets blueprints, specifications, diagrams or schematics to determine appropriate welding process. Inspects completed welds to determine structural soundness. Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. Attention to Detail: Welders need to make clean lines and cuts when welding. Paying attention to the job at hand is necessary.
Dexterity: MIG welders work with their hands, and need to be steady during the welding process.
Strength: MIG welders often need to lift or hold heavy pieces of metal in place while welding.
