Summary
Under the direction of the Vice-President of Student Services, the Dean of Student Services is responsible for planning, organizing, and administering the operations of Matriculation (Counseling & Assessment), Admissions & Records, Financial Aid, Athletics, and Residential/Student Life. Develops and implements operational policies and procedures, manages budgets, maintains records, provides direction to and evaluates faculty and support staff. Performs related work as required.
Education and Experience
Master’s Degree from an accredited institution and a minimum of one year of formal training, internship, or leadership experience reasonably related to student services (or the equivalent)
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Plans, organizes, directs, and participates in a full-scope program for a student services program that includes but is not limited to:
Enrollment services that include admissions, registration, records, student data, and reporting.
Counseling services encompassing advisement, articulation, matriculation, career center, job placement, student discipline, and transfer center.
Public information activities to promote and publicize educational programs, registration periods, financial aid deadlines and other student services information.
Research, collect, assemble, analyze, and maintain information; prepare and present reports; participate in program review.
Participate in the preparation of budgets and oversight of expenditures.
Verify student enrollments as required for state and/or district reports, scholarships, and financial aid.
Ensure confidentiality of student records and information and security of permanent student and instructor class records.
Supervise the calculation of tuition and other fees according to established guidelines; oversee receipt of payments and posting to computer system. Maintain related records.
Oversee operation of campus residence hall.
Supervise the evaluation of general breadth and/or graduation requirements.
Establish an atmosphere that promotes student success, integrates athletics into the broader educational mission of the district, and maintains high standards of performance and ethical conduct for faculty, staff, and students.
Provide administrative leadership for the district athletic programs.
Certify students for degrees, honors, certificates, and other awards or eligibility.
Prepare and submit required District, State, and Federal reports
Participate in the hiring of faculty and staff
Supervise and evaluate faculty and staff of student services area
Hear student grievances at the informal resolution level.
Organizes, attends or chairs a variety of administrative and staff meetings as required; serves on committees as assigned; provides administrative oversight of special projects or programs as assigned. Represent the District at assigned local, regional, and State meetings
Provide leadership in the area of student support services.
Develop and manage budgets and annual planning through the Non-Instructional Program Review process for staffing, budget expenditures, facilities, equipment and supplies.
Fulfill administrative responsibilities in compliance with the District’s mission, goals, policies, and collective bargaining agreements.
Foster cooperation by encouraging and maintaining open communications and by supporting the implementation of shared governance.
Exercise judgments, which are dispassionate, fair, consistent, and equitable.
Demonstrate a commitment to excellence in education and to principles of ethical behavior.

Additional experience in a higher education administrative capacity.
Experience with California community colleges (California Education Code and Title 5 Regulations)
Experience with participatory governance structures
Experience with accreditation expectations (ACCJC Eligibility Requirements and Standards)
Experience managing various areas of student support services: i.e. financial aid
Experience with expectations of matriculation

Physical Demands
