The Emergency Room Technician performs specialized work initiating emergent or appropriate care and assisting emergency department staff to help establish and maintain safety and an effective patient flow in the emergency department. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the work site supervisor, typically a registered nurse performs initial basic life support interventions (airway, breathing, and circulation) on emergency department patients presenting for care
Communicates the condition of patients presenting to the emergency department to the triage nurse
Initiates life saving measures, i.e., opening an airway, hemorrhage control, chest compressions, stabilization of fractures, cervical spine alignment/protection
Stabilizes and extricates injured patients from vehicles at the emergency department entrance
Assists patients to and from vehicles in the emergency department
Acts as a liaison between the patient/family/significant other and the members of the emergency staff by maintaining open communication regarding patient condition, status, progress, etc.
Transports patients from triage to the treatment area in the emergency department at the request of the triage nurse
Directs patient flow and traffic in the triage/reception area
Assists the triage nurse and the charge nurse as directed
Adheres to all Amergis and worksite rules, policies and procedures
Performs other duties as assigned/necessary
Minimum Requirements:
Completion of a state approved Basic EMT training program if applicable.
Appropriate State License/Certification; if required by state regulations and/or contract specifications.
One (1) year of experience as an ER Technician preferred.
Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice
Participation and completion of Amergis’ Competency program when applicable
Current CPR if applicable
TB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable
Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)
Must meet all federal, state and local requirements
Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site
Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements
Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors, co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language is required
Computer proficiency required
Must be at least 18 years of age
