Under general supervision performs a wide variety of paraprofessional accounting duties including preparing accounting system documents, posting transactions, reconciling accounts, compiling accounting reports, and responding to inquiries from other court staff and the public. Performs related duties as required.

Examples of Duties

1. Reconciles, compiles, and tracks financial information manually or by computer in order to maintain an accurate

balance for a given accounting period; posts payments received and authorizes payments to vendors, or clients.

2. Prepares established worksheets, trial balances and financial statements.

3. Assists with year-end closing of account ledgers.

4. Prepares Accounts Payable claims. Prepares grant invoices for billing to the State of California.

5. Communicates verbally and in writing with fund recipients, departments. and other agencies in order to resolve

discrepancies and exchange or relate information regarding policy compliance, financial record corrections, and

inter-department agency appropriations or expenditures.

6. Interprets and explains rules, regulations, and policies regarding fiscal programs to staff to ensure compliance with

departmental policy and accounting procedures.

7. May act as a lead worker over clerical accounting staff; organizes and directs work.8. Performs related duties as

assigned.

Employment Standards

1) Three or more years of experience working with bookkeeping, accounting or credit collection principles; or, 2) two years of experience performing duties equivalent to an Accounting Assistant Sr. with Santa Barbara County Superior Court; or, 3) any combination of training, education, and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities.

Knowledge of: accounting processes and procedures; bookkeeping practices and generally

accepted accounting standards; principles of governmental budgeting; computerized accounting system and/or personal computer spreadsheet software applications; business math.

Ability to: read, interpret, and apply rules, regulations, policies and procedures related to fiscal recordkeeping and accounting functions; compile and present fiscal or financial data; learn accounting structure, financial guidelines, systems and procedures of the court; make arithmetical calculations, including ratio, rate, and percentage; create computer spreadsheets and reports; use spreadsheet formulas; act in a lead capacity over clerical accounting staff; communicate general and technical information; maintain working relationships with government officials, superiors, co-workers, and the public; operate business machines; train staff on departmental practices and procedures; identify and resolve discrepancies in accounting records.
