JOB DESCRIPTION
Title: Barista
Status: Non-exempt
CURRENTLY SEEKING PART-TIME SEASONAL COVERAGE WITH POSSIBILITY OF MORE PERMANENT HOURS IN NEW LOCATION OPENING SOON. NEW HIRES MAY BE ASKED TO FILL SHIFTS AT BOTH LOCATIONS AS NEEDED.
General Description: As a Barista, your primary duty will be to make and serve the espresso and coffee-based drinks and other food and beverage items that Freedom Coffee serves to its clients. Baristas must also have the ability to handle keyholder duties, including opening, closing, inventory management, cash handling, and end-of-shift balancing, as well as being able to manage the unique operational needs of a mobile coffee cart, including filling and draining water and waste tanks, daily setup and teardown, and being able to lift/carry at least 50 lbs. Baristas are also expected to exhibit world-class customer service and relationship building with our client base.
Necessary Qualifications: Baristas employed by Freedom Coffee are required to have and maintain a valid California Food Handler Card. It must remain active and in good standing.
Essential Functions. As a Barista, you must be able to:
- Competently prepare and serve coffees and teas that knock our customers socks off;
- Clean and keep organized the areas in which you provide service;
- Adhere to cleanliness and sanitization standards and protocols established by both Freedom Coffee and state law;
- Be available to work flexible hours that will include mornings, weekends, and holidays;
- Provide world-class customer service with a customer-first mentality and friendly, energetic, and personable demeanor with a smile;
- Be able to work in a fast-paced environment, embrace and learn new information, and multi-task;
- Enjoy working as a team, but also be able to work solo;
- Communicate clearly, professionally, and effectively with clients and coworkers;
- Be extremely reliable and punctual;
- Stand, walk, work with your hands, and perform other manual labor for long periods
Other Job Duties & Expectations. You will also be expected to:
- Implement adaptable sales techniques, such as upselling, cross-selling, highlighting promotions, seasonal, or popular items, simplifying ordering, and speed of service;
- Love connecting with people, build relationships, and act as a leader and role model;
- Take pride in your work;
- Assist and support fellow Freedom Coffee team members with daily operations;
- Contribute to and foster a positive, team-based environment at the workplace;
- Adhere to the schedules established by Freedom Coffee (and adjust to changes in those schedules as needed);
- Timely perform all of the duties listed herein;
- Perform other functions and tasks as may be assigned by Freedom Coffee from time to time
Preferred Qualifications. While not required, Baristas will ideally possess:
- At least one year of Barista experience (management experience preferable);
- At least one year of retail or related sales experience;
- A high school diploma (or equivalent) or higher degree; and
- A strong worth ethic and desire to contribute to a growing small business
