27 year-old athletic young man with autism requires 1:1 support and facilitation in the community and home for activities.
This active young man was a gymnast (before COVID), swimmer, runner, and enjoys going to LA Fitness, and various activities. Loves hiking and traveling. He enjoys drawing and artwork, animals and nature. Many diverse interests. He is verbal, but struggles with social communication.
Primary goals are to build independent skills and work on socialization and having fun in community. He needs GUY time. For example: playing pool and bowling at Harleys.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
—Must be male, as going into community restroom or locker rooms may be needed.
—Will be required to drive. Must have good driving record. Mileage will be reimbursed.
—Must enjoy athletic activities: basketball, running, volleyball, surfing, paddleboarding, beach (must be good swimmer), like going to gym, assist client with weightlifting.
—Must like hiking, and nature outings.
—Individual MAY return to disability program at Ventura College for 1-3 classes, would be great to have support there as well. (but could hire separate person who is fit for that environment, as that requires training into how to support academic learning with computer and other skills, perhaps electives. He is a very hard worker, so is a joy to teach. He does have auditory processing challenges, so needs visual supports to learn.)
—Must have upbeat, fun personality, be organized, have excellent communication skills, and be responsible. (No flakes!) If you are ex-military, that is huge plus.
—Some related experience with autism REQUIRED
—You will receive training and support from very experienced parent, and consulting with BCBA consultant to cross over communication skills in community settings. Participating in training and needed meetings is REQUIRED, not optional. (Flexible scheduling for meetings)
—Option to go on staff with local agency/parent will make up rate difference / later individual will be on “self-determination” model through TCRC, and another agency will do funding.
