Law Firm seeks two (2) experienced Associates for its busy and exciting litigation practice. The Firm represents Plaintiffs and Defendants in Construction law, Real Estate and Business Litigation. The ideal candidate will be a team player with solid academic credentials, 3-7 years of litigation experience, and be licensed to practice law in California. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to join a fast-moving practice and hone their litigation skills while receiving training and mentorship from partners with extensive experience. The firm has many long-term clients, and is committed to developing young attorneys to serve those clients and ultimately become partners.
In this position, a self-starter with strong attention to detail and exceptional analytical skills is expected. The ideal candidate is expected to work in a fast-paced, demanding environment and possess the experience to immediately assume mature files, as necessary.
Job Responsibilities:
Draft pleadings, motions and briefs; prepare discovery, respond to requests (admissions, disclosures, interrogatories, depositions orders, etc.) and organize case materials
Attend and manage court proceedings, mediations, settlement conferences, taking and defending depositions, site inspections and trial.
Effectively communicate with clients and the managing attorney (s) to understand the clients concerns and provide sound legal advice
Analyze, evaluate, synthesize, and research case law, statutes, regulations and documents impacting the firm's clients
Strong written and critical thinking skills that lead to comprehensive and persuasive writings
Communicate clearly and logically (both orally and in writing) with courts, counsel, clients, witnesses and experts
Ability to handle complex problems utilizing initiative, creativity and sound professional judgment
Manage and prioritize a caseload efficiently
Work both independently and as a contributing team member
Coordinate with paralegals and other staff
Continual reporting to insurance carriers
Accurate and timely recording of billable hours, in adherence to Firm policy
Adhere to professional legal ethics and standards
Requirements:
License to practice law in the state of California
Active bar membership
3-7 years of civil litigation experience
Deep knowledge of the California Rules of Civil Procedure
Westlaw or Nexis experience
Preferred Qualifications
Hearing/trial experience
Working knowledge or demonstrated interest in construction law, real estate, contracts, insurance and/or complex litigation
Full-Time, Monday-Friday. Prepared to work in our Westlake Village or Ventura Office. The Firm offers a competitive salary, PTO, holiday and incentive pay. Continuing Legal Education requirements paid. Paid State Bar annual dues.
