Summary
Grinders perform a skilled role to ensure surfaces are proper and smooth following the welding process. Grinders are key members of a team which is responsible for coordinating and performing the grinding process through quality control inspection.
Essential Functions
Uses a hand grinder to grind external and internal surfaces. Removes metal by the application of an abrasive wheel attached to the grinder
Changes the grinding wheels when worn
Checks finished units for defects, ensuring they meet specifications and quality standards
Adheres to all safety guidelines and regulations when operating hand tools and machinery
Keeps the work area clean and organized, and ensures proper maintenance of equipment
Follows blueprints, work orders, and other instructions to determine product specification and operational procedures
Utilizes measuring tape to ensure proper dimensions are maintained or achieved
Competencies
Technical Capacity – Proficient use of hand tools, safe and efficient lifting techniques, and the ability to use measuring tape and hand grinder.
