It is from this belief that Many Mansions strives to provide affordable, quality, service-enriched rental housing for formerly homeless and those of very low income in Southern California. To meet the needs of the community, Many Mansions is implementing a strategic plan meant to significantly raise the number of people the organization serves in the next five years.

Description (brief)

The Grant & Communications Associate supports grant‐making and funding initiatives while also driving strategic communications to elevate our organization’s profile and engage stakeholders. This dual‐function role combines prospect research, grant writing and reporting, and participation in active relationship building with funders, as well as taking a lead role in communications and marketing initiatives including content development, digital and print communications, and engagement with external stakeholders.

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities:

To perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The duties of the position of Grants & Communications Associate include, but are not limited to, the following:

1. Collaborate with the Grant Program Manager in drafting, reviewing, and editing grant proposals, budgets, reports, and acknowledgement letters.

2. Identify and evaluate new funding opportunities aligned with organizational priorities. Conduct prospect research, document findings, and present insights. Monitor funding trends and stay informed on relevant external data and research related to grants and philanthropy.

3. Monitor deliverables and due dates. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in grant tracking and data management systems (e.g., Salesforce, SharePoint, Teams).

4. Support intentional relationship-building (IRB) efforts by coordinating and participating in funder meetings, site visits, presentations, and other outreach activities. Serve as a primary point of contact for communicating program impact and organizational updates to funders and community partners.

5. Develop, write, edit, and distribute content across channels—web, social media, email newsletters, print materials—that tells the story of our work, engages donors and stakeholders, and supports fundraising goals. Collaborate with division staff on design and production.

6. Assist in planning and coordinating external communications and public relations opportunities, including press releases, donor communications, and event materials. Support the development and execution of earned and paid media strategy.

7. Manage and execute social media strategies: create content calendars, monitor performance, engage with audiences, and surface opportunities for amplification.

8. Maintain brand consistency and communications tools and resources (style guide adherence, image libraries, templates, website updates, Constant Contact platform). Monitor and analyze communications metrics (open rates, engagement, media mentions), produce regular summaries, and use findings to make recommendations for improvement.

9. Lead communications-related projects, such as updating the organization’s GuideStar and Charity Navigator profiles.

10. Assist in all fundraising and community engagement activities for the division, as needed. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements & Qualifications:

Overview- The ideal candidate is an exceptional, persuasive writer and editor and an excellent verbal communicator with superb attention to detail and a demonstrated ability to meet deadlines. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively between teams.

Strong organizational and time-management skills and a demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively in a fast-paced environment are required.

A strong commitment to Many Mansions’ mission and work is required and experience in communicating on affordable housing and homelessness topics is highly preferred. Must have an ability to represent the organization professionally and authentically.

Education & Experience- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, English, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, or related field — or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Plus two years of professional experience in a nonprofit or mission‐driven setting, ideally with a blend of fundraising/grants and communications responsibilities. Demonstrated experience with fund development and writing government and private grants highly preferred.

Software & Technology- Advanced Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint skills required; Proficiency with funders databases, social media platforms, email marketing, content management systems, , basic analytics, and digital communications and graphic tools highly preferred; Experience with Salesforce or other customer relationship management (CRM) systems and procedures preferred.

Work Environment- Moderate to high stress work environment. May have frequent interruptions, time constraints, and emotional demands. The noise level is low to moderate. The corporate culture is friendly and collaborative, yet goal-oriented and fast-paced.

Physical Demands- While performing the duties of this job, the staff member is regularly required to sit, use hands to handle, or feel objects, tools and/or controls, talk, and hear. A special requirement of this position is the ability to reach different areas of MM’s activities. The staff member is required to stand, walk, and reach using feet, legs, back, arms and hands. The staff member must be able to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
