Job Summary

The Educational Technology Specialist will collaborate with staff to integrate innovative and effective technologies to support, enhance, and extend learning across grades K-12. This role involves guiding educators in the use of educational technology, including Chromebooks and Google Workspace for Education, to foster meaningful and creative learning experiences. The Educational Technology Specialist reports to the Director and is a classified employee.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Provide Educational Technology Expertise: Offer guidance and support for K-12 faculty, with a focus on the effective use of Chromebooks, Google Workspace for Education, and other classroom technologies.

Collaborate with Staff: Work closely with teachers and school leadership to design, develop, and deliver educational technology initiatives that align with the school's mission and meet classroom needs.

Support and Training: Support technology integration through advising, collaborating, and training educators on the use of educational tools, both in and outside the classroom.

Digital Content Management: Assist with the implementation and utilization of the school’s digital content management systems as necessary.

Technology Maintenance: Manage and maintain all educational technology devices, including Chromebooks and other student computers. This includes performing updates, repairs, and troubleshooting to ensure optimal performance for classroom instruction.

Testing Readiness: Prepare and configure student devices (Chromebooks, laptops, etc.) for standardized testing, including CAASPP (California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress) testing, ensuring that all systems and tools are properly set up.

Evaluate Technology Initiatives: Regularly assess the effectiveness and sustainability of current and future uses of educational technology in K-12 classrooms.

Research and Development: Collaborate with the administration to research new technological tools and strategies, propose enhancements for teaching and learning, and foster innovation.

Liaison Role: Serve as the bridge between staff and administration, ensuring that educational technology supports curriculum, instruction, and assessments smoothly and effectively.

Troubleshooting: Respond promptly to technology issues reported by staff, providing timely support for the integration and use of technology in classrooms.

Network and Systems Management: Assist in managing and maintaining the school network, ensuring the smooth operation of the Student Information System (SIS) and facilitating the integration of new technology platforms.

Inventory and Technology Policies: Conduct timely inventories of all educational technology and assist in the development and enforcement of the school’s Acceptable Use Policy (AUP), digital citizenship program, and adherence to current technology standards.

Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned by the Director or administration in support of the school’s educational technology initiatives.

Qualifications and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred (working towards a Bachelor’s degree)

School experience preferred

Experience working with diverse learners

Expertise Microsoft 365 and G Suite for Education

Exceptional project management and execution skills

Ability to work independently and within a team

Effective verbal and written communications skills

Effective interpersonal skills

Adherence to the highest level of professionalism by demonstrating honesty, integrity, and maturity

General Requirements

A criminal history background check is required of all employees (DOJ Fingerprints).

Physical Abilities

Hearing and speaking clearly to exchange information in person and/or on the telephone, sitting or standing for extended periods of time. Must have dexterity of hands and fingers; kneeling, bending at the waist and reaching overhead over the shoulders and horizontally. Ability to lift heavy objects up to 50 pounds. Ability to climb or walk over rough or uneven surfaces.
