Part-Time Legal Assistant – HOA Litigation Support (Remote / Tulare CA

Potential $1,000,000+ Lawsuit(s)

I am a homeowner engaged in ongoing civil litigation involving a Homeowners Association and related parties. I am seeking a part-time legal assistant, preferably a 3rd- or 4th-year law student, who is motivated by public-interest law, accountability, and access to justice.

This opportunity builds on more than 20 years of homeowner advocacy, research, and writing focused on governance, transparency, and abuse of power in private housing systems. I am the author of multiple published works addressing homeowner rights, HOA governance failures, and systemic barriers faced by ordinary residents.

This is not a law firm position, and no legal advice is required. It is a hands-on public-interest role offering real exposure to civil litigation, evidence development, and accountability work that rarely occurs inside traditional institutional settings.

Public-Interest Significance: Approximately 74 million Americans live in HOAs, often governed by private entities with limited oversight and few practical remedies when wrongdoing occurs.

This litigation reflects issues I have documented and written about for decades, including:

Lack of transparency in HOA governance. Misuse of legal procedures to silence oversight, Due process failures affecting ordinary homeowners, Power imbalances between institutions and individuals

Your work will directly support the creation of a careful factual record that may inform broader public awareness, reform efforts, and future advocacy beyond this single case.

What You Will Learn:

Real-world civil litigation outside a firm or clinic environment / How public-interest cases are built without institutional backing /

Evidence organization, motion support, and procedural strategy / The intersection of litigation, advocacy, and public accountability /

This is substantive work, not clerical busywork.

Primary Responsibilities:

Organize and manage litigation documents (pleadings, exhibits, correspondence) / Build and maintain timelines, issue lists, and evidence trackers / Summarize court filings and factual records / Assist with drafting non-legal materials (letters, declarations, exhibits) / Maintain structured digital files and spreadsheets / Conduct limited procedural or background research (no legal opinions)

Ideal Candidate:

3L or 4L law student strongly preferred / Demonstrated interest in public-interest law, housing justice, civil rights, or consumer protection / Strong analytical and organizational skills / Close attention to detail and discretion / Comfortable working independently and remotely / Coursework or clinic experience in civil litigation a plus

Position Details:

Part-time, flexible hours compatible with law school / Remote preferred (California familiarity a plus) / Paid hourly (commensurate with experience) / Ongoing work, not a one-time project

Important Notes:

Supports self-represented litigation / No court appearances / No attorney-client relationship / Strict confidentiality required

To Apply:

Please reply with: Law school and year (3L or 4L) / Brief description of your public-interest interests or experience / Relevant coursework, clinics, or writing (if any).

Availability and desired hourly rate:

This role is best suited for a law student who wants to learn deeply, contribute meaningfully to public-interest accountability work, and engage with a case shaped by decades of advocacy and research.
