JOB ANNOUNCEMENT – PROJECT SPECIALIST

Public Health Advocates (PHAdvocates) brings a health and equity lens to some of the most important issues of our day. We have two decades of successful state and local campaign experience focusing on prevention and challenging the social, political, and economic systems that perpetuate racial, economic and health disparities.

We are recruiting for a dynamic community outreach professional to support our California Healthy Eating Active Living (HEAL) Cities campaign in the Central Valley.

Responsibilities

• Community organizing: educate constituents, organizations, and community leaders at events, meetings, and other forums and recruit them to be part of PHAdvocates network

• Local Policy: Meet and coordinate with elected officials, as well as attend and present at city council meetings

• Coalition building: Gather commitments from constituents, organizations, and community leaders to support PHAdvocates HEAL Cities campaign efforts.

• Research: gather relevant information for ongoing campaigns

• Calendar and meetings: keep Outlook calendar up-to-date with work schedule and program activities

• Reporting and documentation: track all outreach activities; maintain campaign contact lists; and properly archive campaign materials such as policy documents, support letters/cards, presentations, toolkits, etc.

• Program Support: other program duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Preferred BA or MPH, MPA

• 3+ years of policy, systems and environmental change work, and community organizing

• Bilingual-English/Spanish - Ability to speak, read and write in Spanish, fluently

• Prior non-profit experience a plus

• Must have reliable transportation

• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills

• Strong verbal and written communication skills

• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, online databases & uploading web content

• Availability to work evenings and weekends

Position details:

• This is a part-time temporary (19 hours per week) non-exempt position

• $20 per hour, depending on relevant experience

• Position available immediately
