The Lead Product Designer is the senior-most product designer at Outer Labs, setting the bar for design at Outer Labs and reporting to the CEO. As a product designer, you’ll work on a wide variety of challenging problems across a portfolio of clients and internal R+D efforts. This will require frequent engagement with stakeholders to collect insight and bring clarity to the project’s design objectives. You’ll build a point of view for the product and help your designs come to life by working through client feedback, visual design, and technical implementation. The role is above all else, to make sure our clients love using the products we deliver.
You’ll also advocate for the big picture of design culture and best practices at Outer Labs by working across departments, and ensure we have the appropriate resources and processes to support objectives.
Work directly with project stakeholders to collect information, empathize, and drive the UX/UI from concept to delivery
Conduct your own independent design research and market analysis to augment stakeholder perspectives
Partner with your Product Owner and Engineering project team members to develop a customer-centric point of view for your product
Express design intent with high-quality mockups and clickable prototypes that embody the end-to-end user journey
Leverage the full range of design expertise at Outer Labs by working closely with other designers to sharpen your intuition and iterate through your designs
Facilitate the handoff of design requirements, clickable prototypes, and assets to developers by working closely with your Project Manager and Engineering lead
Advocate for user experience, field questions, and make adjustments as you work through implementation with developers
Ensure the final result provides the intended value to stakeholders by studying user behavior and working through areas of friction
Study and improve upon design processes across projects, collaborating with stakeholders in customer success and engineering as needed
Provide mentorship to designers in the context of their project deliverables
Steer us toward design systems and tools that bring consistency of quality to all projects
Assist with initial scoping and resource planning for new projects
Help build a pipeline of designers and recruit them to Outer Labs as needed
5-8 years experience working as a Product Designer, User Experience (UX) Designer, or similar role (please provide your design portfolio)
Deep knowledge of user experience research and market analysis frameworks
Experience building and iterating on user journeys from design research
Experience wireframing and designing in Figma, or similar application
Excellent eye for aesthetic design and latest design trends
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
Driven by curiosity with exceptional attention to detail
Preference for fast-paced iteration, deadlines, and budgets
Experience with interactive prototyping tools is a plus (Origami, Framer, or similar)
Experience with AEC industry is strongly preferred
