Camp Director   Responsible For - Job Summary: Counselors in Training (CITs) are vital volunteer members of the summer camp staff team. This role is designed for individuals starting at age s 14 or 15 who are interested in gaining experience in camp leadership and program delivery. CITs assist in various program areas, under the guidance and supervision of experienced staff, to provide support in delivering a high-quality camping experience. This role is a steppingstone to becoming a full-fledged camp staff member in the future. Season Dates (CITs must attend Staff Development & 2 weeks of camp) : 

Staff Development Week: 6/15 /25 - 6/ 21/25 

Week 1: 6/22 /25 - 6/ 28/25 

Week 2: 6/29 /25 -7/5/25 

Week 3: 7/6 /25 - 7/ 12/25 

Week 4: 7/13 /25 - 7/ 19 /25  

Week 5: 7/20 /25 - 7/ 26 /25  

Week 6: 7/27 /25 -8/2 /25 (Dependent program finalization)  

Key Responsibilities:

Assist in the facilitation and supervision of camp activities under the guidance of senior staff, focusing on areas without age-restricted certifications.

Help prepare and maintain program areas and materials.

Engage with campers, aiding in program delivery and ensuring a safe and fun environment.

Learn and adhere to all camp policies and safety guidelines.

Participate in CIT training sessions and staff meetings.

Provide general support to camp operations as needed, such as in dining areas, during camp events, and at campfires.

Demonstrate a positive attitude, willingness to learn, and enthusiasm for camp activities.

Support overall operations of Schoepe Scout Reservation at Lost Valley and the Scouting America, Orange County Council .

Qualifications:

Must be at least 14 years old.

Interest in developing leadership skills and experience in a camp setting.

Strong communication skills and ability to work well in a team.

Energetic, enthusiastic, and responsible.

Willingness to learn and follow instructions.

Ability to live on site during the summer season working flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as program scheduling requires.  

Have or be willing to obtain membership in Scouting America .   

Have or be willing to obtain Live Scan background check.  

All camp staff must have a completed annual physical done by a medical provider prior to the start of the summer camp season

Work Environment:  

This is a seasonal position with the possibility of renewal based on program success.

Working in a camp environment includes providing customer service, solving problems, and cooperation with others, regardless of your title. It also requires a desire to develop and work with youth, which can occasionally lead to challenging interactions.
