Position Purpose
Manages, plans, directs and coordinates the activities of the maintenance
and repair crews. Assists with budget preparation and administers expenses
for assigned work programs. Supervises and supports assigned personnel in all
aspects of duties associated with the Streets Division, including but not

Essential Functions / Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSManages and supervises assigned staff for one of the following work sections.
Must maintain a working knowledge of all non-assigned sections.Asphalt Section : Snow and ice control operations, asphalt removal and
replacement, overlay, patching, capping, potholes, shoulder work,
millings placement, alley and parking lot reconstruction and maintenance,
hauliSweeping/Mowing Section: Snow and ice control operations, street
sweeping, sidewalk sweeping, island cleaning, R.O.W. maintenance,
mowing, weed spraying, hauling.Concrete/Drainage/Special Projects Section: Snow and ice control
operations, concrete cross-pans, curb and gutter, sidewalks removal and
replacement, retaining wall and pad construction, storm drainage,
creek, ditch and grate maintenance, welding and fabrication, hauling,
special pPrioritizes schedules and completes repair of the streets and drainage
infrastructure systems. Assesses infrastructure equipment and material
inventory for annual budget. Recommends immediate infrastructure replacement
needs and reviews the engineering plans for contractor awarded projects.
Works directly with city engineering personnel to inspect and accept streets
and drainage system warranty projects.Coordinates projects with other city divisions and departments. Work closely
with other city superintendents, supervisors, engineers and planners on
various special projects and needs. Projects may also include loaning and
borrowing equipment between divisions.Develops specifications for purchase of new and replacement equipment and
materials.Exercises initiative and judgment as well as making decisions with the scope
of assigned authority.Carries a contact beeper or cell phone for response to after-hour emergency
calls on a rotating basis with streets foreman and streets technicians to
assist customers as assigned by streets manager.Assists with divisions budget preparation and administers expenses for
assigned work programs.Evaluates and requests budgeting for new equipment and safety needs,
including writing specifications for capital equipment purchases.Documents and completes monthly and annual production reports. Formulates
daily work orders and updates field data utilizing assigned programs.Assesses and addresses internal and external customer concerns, complaints
and requests for service and provides appropriate response.Communicates daily with assigned streets foremen and streets technicians to
discuss work assignments and in the planning, orders of supplies,
scheduling repairs, and directs the completion of assigned work programs for
the section.Must be available to respond to and manage emergency situations, whether in
the regular work day or after hours.Assures appropriate personal protective equipment for assigned staff is
utilized and enforces safety policies and procedures for assigned employees in
the field. Provides field training including safety, equipment operation,
and maintenance procedures.Frequently operates a personal or City-owned motor vehicle to drive to and
from work locations throughout the City.Demonstrates a respectful attitude towards customers and cowor ers that
promotes teamwork, open communication, and effective customer service.Acts with the customer in mind, responds to requests promptly and provides
effective services or solutions for customers.Exercises appropriate level of initiative and judgment to make decisions
