Work on big data / machine learning / data science applied to important problems in biomedicine, supported by ample computational resources.

Mentor group members to inculcate high standards of writing and maintaining code, and to inculcate high standards of organizing and managing data.

Publish papers on creative tools and workflows, publish/maintain open-source software projects, and present in scientific meetings/conferences.

Be a part of a vibrant, supportive environment and work with smart and fun colleagues within the group and in the broader interactive and interdisciplinary group of faculty, staff scientists, postdoctoral fellows, engineers, and students in Department for Biomedical Informatics (DBMI).

Grow professionally through expert scientific partnership and mentoring from Arjun. This also includes always finding in him an audience to discuss opportunities/challenges and a strong advocate for interests.

Key Responsibilities:

Collaboratively conceive computational approaches and write code to implement them as analytical workflows that utilize high-performance clusters and cloud infrastructure.

Apply the implementation on large-scale data to perform analyses and generate insights. Iteratively improve conception and implementation.

Maintain high standards for code documentation, clarity, efficiency, and maintainability for themselves and for all other group members.

Excel in organization and management of massive data collections and enable others in the group to meet those data standards.

Onboard new members and mentor junior members on research projects.

Contribute to and lead writing, submitting, and revising publications on algorithms, tools, and workflows, and present in scientific meetings/conferences.

Develop, publish, and maintain well-documented modular efficient open-source software; Contribute to developing cloud-based webservers.

Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, data science, biomedical informatics, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.

One (1) year of experience related to machine learning, working with large-scale data, performing integrative data analyses, and applications to real problems in a related discipline.

One (1) year of experience with Python and/or R and developing Python and/or R packages.

One (1) year of experience working with Unix and/or Linux, including shell scripting.

One (1) year of experience in using version control (Git) for code/project management and in making well-documented, modular open-source code contributions.

Senior Level:

Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, data science, biomedical informatics, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.

Two (2) years of experience related to machine learning, working with large-scale data, performing integrative data analyses, and applications to real problems in a related discipline.

Two (2) years of experience with Python and/or R and developing Python and/or R packages.

Two (2) years of experience working with Unix and/or Linux, including shell scripting.

Two (2) years of experience in using version control (Git) for code/project management and in making well-documented, modular open-source code contributions.

Principal Level:

Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, data science, biomedical informatics, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.

Three (3) years of experience related to machine learning, working with large-scale data, performing integrative data analyses, and applications to real problems in a related discipline.

Three (3) years of experience with Python and/or R and developing Python and/or R packages.

Three (3) years of experience working with Unix and/or Linux, including shell scripting.

Three (3) years of experience in using version control (Git) for code/project management and in making well-documented, modular open-source code contributions.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in computer science, computer engineering, data science, biomedical informatics, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.

One (1) or more years of experience with a) High-performance cluster computing, b) Distributed task queue, c) RESTful web services, and/or d) Docker containers.

One (1) or more years of experience with cloud-based computing solutions (AWS, Google Cloud Platform, etc.)

One (1) or more years of experience in building, maintaining, and using large databases.

One (1) or more years of experience in web development (Flask, HTML5, CSS, and JavaScript).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Excellent programming skills in Python and/or R.

High coding standards for writing efficient, clear, well-documented, version-controlled code.

Knowledge and practical experience in machine learning and its applications to real problems in some discipline.

Ability to work with large datasets and perform integrative data analyses.

Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution and with geographically distributed collaborators.

Ability to interact with people of varying technical levels to gather requirements and understand existing systems relevant to the challenges at hand.
