Job Title: Middle School Cross-Country Head Coach
Program: Athletics
Reports to: Athletic Director
FLSA Status: Exempt

Position Summary
Mentoring and coaching Middle School students in Cross-Country. A typical year begins at the end of August through the end of October. A typical week consists of two (2) to three (3) after-school practices (school dismisses at 3:00 pm, and practices start at 3:15) and one (1) XC meet which is usually on a Saturday.
Coaching and Season Dates: August 29, 2024 to October 26, 2024
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Coach is responsible for teaching the fundamental technical and tactical competencies of the sport while fostering a growth mindset in student-athletes.
They will ignite a lifelong love of running and personal development, strive to create lasting positive memories and foster a sense of camaraderie among the team.
The Coach will nurture a positive team culture grounded in personal responsibility, respect, and care for teammates and competitors.
Additionally, the Coach will promote and support healthy lifestyle habits, including proper nutrition, rest, academic excellence, and time management.
As an extension of the teaching faculty, the Coach will adhere to, support, and uphold school rules and expectations, collaborating with the Athletic Director and school employees to ensure the well-being of student-athletes while adhering to the Shining Mountain Waldorf School Coaching Code of Ethics.
Additional Responsibilities (includes but are not limited to)
Collaborate with an Assistant Coach to fulfill all of the essential and additional duties and responsibilities
Collaborate with the Athletic Director to:
Set the meet schedule, register athletes for meets, coach and supervise athletes during meets, supporting student-athlete transportation to and from meets.
Prepare, hand out, and collect uniforms.
Facilitate a pre-season meeting with parents and end-of-season celebration focussed on student-athlete acknowledgments.
In accordance with the SMWS philosophy, the person filling this position may occasionally be required to carry out or assist with other tasks in accordance with the duties listed above
Education and Qualifications / Regulations
Working knowledge of the sport is useful, but not mandatory.
Experience working with youth.
Energized about working with a wide array of athletic abilities and skills.
Willingness to work with the Athletic Director to support overall program goals.
Willingness to obtain mandatory CPR/First Aid/AED certificate (paid for by the school)
Willingness to obtain mandatory Positive Coaching Alliance Double Goal Coaching certification (paid for by the school)
Work Setting
Outdoor practice on School grounds, local trailheads, and Wonderland Lake
Salary and Benefits:
Base Stipend of $1,000.00 per season with pay increase commensurate with experience
