Responsible for:

Drilling quality primary and secondary blast holes, drilling to proper depth, and proper collaring of drill holes

Identifying and reporting any mechanical issues on the drill and recognizing when bits are wearing and require replacement

Recognizing hazards associated with drilling next to banks and high walls

Drilling angle holes and drilling in native ground

Safely moves and positions power cables when operating drill around shovels

May be required to:

Bend drill steels, change bits and stabilizers and assist maintenance personnel with pipe changes

Operate manual or automated drills

Manually measure drill holes after drilling for quality control

Operate other pieces of mobile equipment as necessary for business needs

Responsible for the knowledge and safe performance of the following procedures: drilling in fill, using drill fire suppression system, loading drill on low-boy, breaking drill pipe, lowering and raising the mast, mounting and dismounting of drill, and drilling near overhead power lines

Responsible for knowing and performing proper tramming techniques, such as, properly and safely move from one drill hole to the next, properly and safely move from one bench to the next, properly and safely navigate on uneven grades, and properly securing the drill string

Frequently communicates and interacts with blasting crew to properly clear drill for blasting

Performs other duties as required

QualificationsMinimum Qualifications

Two (2) years of mobile equipment operating experience

Knowledge of the proper pattern approach and proper sequence of drill patterns

Knowledge of ground composition and geology

Knowledge of blasting operations procedures

Ability to safely and properly lift heavy and unstable objects, such as drill bits and stabilizers

Must have completed academic and practical competencies required (this includes Line of Progression requirements for internal employees where LOP Exists) and have experience demonstrating the required aptitude. The selected candidate shall demonstrate the ability to apply knowledge and skills while also passing a written assessment where required. This exam is based on skills/abilities and/or academic knowledge; as well as safety.

Preferred

High School diploma or GED

Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures given in English

Ability to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards

Must be able to work in a potentially stressful environment

This is a Safety Sensitive role

Work is performed in a mine or manufacturing plant setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, toxic chemicals, explosives, fumes or airborne particles

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, work on uneven work surfaces and work on elevated platforms

Frequently may be required to lift up to 50 pounds during the course of the work day

Will be required to work rotating shifts in a 24/7/365 operation

Personal protective equipment is required on a regular basis, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and, as needed: respirator, rubber steel-toed boots, gloves, fall protection, protective clothing, goggles, face shield and other protective equipment as required

What We Offer YouThe estimated pay range for this role is currently  $26.50 - $36.50/hour. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors.
