The unit exists to provide 24 hours, seven day a week care and supervision of youth in secure residential placement covering work assignments ranging from Admissions and Control, school and day programming, and detention, assessment, and commitment (long term treatment) living units. CDHSCareers Description of JobNormal working hours: 7am - 4pm Monday - Thursday and 7am - 11pm Fridays (subject to change) This work unit exists to provide for the direct care (e.g. mentor, model, teach, train, support, counsel, advise, supervise, observe, record, document, report, intervene, monitor or otherwise act as a prudent parent), safety and security of both male and female adjudicated youth in custody while providing classroom and education support to the committed school program.Safety & Security in Education Setting . Work involves providing the direct care, safety, security and supervision of adjudicated youth in locked facilities in the education setting. Supervision for safety is a function of appropriate staff location, mobility and continual observation of youth. Enforce established security rules and behavior of a youth or a group of youth, supervise and direct educational activities, orient youth to the unit/facility and agency rules and routines, intervene early in potentially, or actively, volatile situations. Provide immediate intervention in crisis situations. Employ sound judgment and emotional control when evaluating possible crisis in a timely manner taking into consideration the physical and mental well-being of all juveniles and staff. Participate in defusing and debriefing of all incidents pursuant to prevailing DYS Policy. Monitor movement of youth in the education setting or through agency, conduct searches of persons, property or areas according to schedule or as needed. Identify, document and seize contraband as directed or appropriate. Adhere to all Suicide Precaution Monitoring (SPM) Policies and Standards. Monitor SPM status, or other special observation status youth, in accordance with timeframes as noted on Room Check Sheet(s) within the classroom. Actively use effective communication skills, verbal de-escalation skills, and a strength based approach when interacting with youth and staff in a positive and respectful manner. When all other attempts to de-escalate youth have failed, adhere to the Divisions Physical Response Protocols. Monitor, participate, support and enforce behavioral management plans for individual youth as directed (e.g. Behavioral Contracts, Individual Growth and Change Plans). Monitor medical watches as instructed and required pursuant to timeframes noted on the Room Check Sheet(s) during the school day. Actively supervise to support prevention of sexual contact in the facility, adhere to all PREA Policies and Federal Standards. Monitor youth and educational tools while supporting the learning environment Education Support Services. Actively and with positive engagement, implement and follow the facility behavioral management program. Communicate expectations for behavior, events, rules, or other requirements to promote engagement with education content and expectations. Assure positive feedback and understanding of student progress as it relates to the programming objectives. Objectively and fairly monitor, record youth behaviors, youth progress on projects and education requirements, and intervene according to prevailing program standards related to privileges and consequences. Follow daily program schedule based on prevailing standards. Recognize, implement, monitor, observe and document juvenile IGCP (Individual Growth and Change Plan) in accordance with the written program.
Provides educational supervision and supports to youth in custody, implements and documents objectives and achievements as identified by the Individual Plans of persons served to include monitoring education progress appropriately.
Develops, organizes, and leads program activities which promote a level of academic, emotional and behavioral growth of youth in care in the education setting;
This may include the development of high incentive programs and skill-building groups as well as coaching and instructing others on successful group strategies. Participates in interdisciplinary/collaborative team process, discussing individual objectives, successes and areas for growth Lead Collaborative Review Team processes as needed.
Assists in the development of individual academic plans with support as well as individual growth and change plans; submits draft of written program plans for final approval by the supervisor as appropriate
Ensures facilitation of safe transportation of participants to work area, program area, as well as taking an active part in vocational training.
Proctor and Student Information System Accountability . Maintains a secure test environment and proctor MAP test and state mandated tests, and for identified students. Track and monitor tests, testing information, results in a digital format and update as needed. Enters testing data into spreadsheets, forms, and tools to be used by multiple stakeholders in a timely manner. Works with teachers and staff to create a safe testing environment, assists with giving tests orally as needed, follow up on next educational data collection required. Updates and sends monthly data sheets and MTSS information to principal and DYS Education Director via email attachments. Enters and monitors attendance and grades within the student information system to report to principal and DYS education director monthly or as asked. Maintaining organized spreadsheets and documentation. Monitors student progress on the online learning programs used within the classroom. Organizational Accountability and Documentation . Document observations of juvenile behavior and response to program(s). Complete required facility documentation. Document all activities in the classroom setting and relevant information on the education section on the points sheet. Record Suicide Precaution Monitoring (SPM) and Special Management Program (SMP) Status and Medical Watch based on the assigned time intervals or frequency for the specific youth. Complete Extended Risk Assessment Forms as assigned by designated staff. Document daily youth behavior observations. Generate and document Incident Reports as required by DYS Policy. Notify and complete all forms relevant to youth incident reports. Document and report youth behavioral transgressions and recommend interventions to supervisory staff. Report and document any facility deficiencies or safety concerns. All staff must report known or suspected incidents of abuse as mandatory reporters pursuant to prevailing statute. Through all communications and behaviors employees demonstrate, support, and contribute to a healthy, positive and respectful cultural climate throughout the facility. Communicates with outside agencies and co-workers in a professional manner; ensuring to communicate with all residents, staff, and internal/external customers with respect and dignity. Adhere to the CDHS Code of Conduct, the 5 Key Strategies, and the 7 Commitments. Be aware of, and adhere to prevailing legal standards, CDHS Policy, DYS Policy, DYS Audit Standards and Implementing Procedures.
