JOB POSTING FOR IMMEDIATE NEED

FINANCIAL SECRETARY

Supervisor: Lead Pastor & Executive Committee

Purpose: Supports Faith Lutheran Church’s spiritual mission by monitoring and maintaining all accounting: payroll, general ledger, personnel, and budgetary balances for Faith Lutheran Church and Preschool.

Hours: Non-exempt, 30+ hours/week

Starting Pay: $20-$24 per hour (based on experience)

Responsibilities:

Secures approval, gets all invoices for payment, and assigns to the appropriate GL account.

Communicates discrepancies and issues with vendors regarding invoices and credits.

Prepares, reviews, analyzes, and submits monthly financial statements.

Creates, maintains, updates, and enters personnel data into the Payroll System.

Run payroll reports.

Collect, reconcile, and enter time and attendance into the payroll system.

Secure and update employee time records and submit them for approval before payroll submission.

Troubleshoot any problems or questions with the payroll system and resolve the problems.

Assures all payroll taxes are submitted promptly and to the proper tax agency.

Accounts Payable: Prepare and review invoices to ensure timely payment and proper authorization for payment and resolve discrepancies.

Provide miscellaneous personnel reports as requested by management.

Maintains clear lines of communication among staff, pastors, and executive committee.

Performs other duties as assigned.

The job holder must demonstrate current competencies applicable to the position.

Requirements:

Knowledge of QuickBooks, payroll system (Ministry Works), payroll process flow and cycles, and Federal and State payroll tax rules.

Skill in operating various office equipment and computer programs, especially Microsoft Word, Excel, QuickBooks, and payroll systems.

Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.

Work well with coworkers to provide the highest level of teamwork possible by following the policies and procedures of Faith Lutheran Church and by thoroughly understanding job duties and responsibilities.

Bachelor’s degree in accounting (Finance) - Minimum

Satisfactory completion of background check

Minimum 3 to 5 years prior experience in accounting as a bookkeeper, full-charge bookkeeper, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll processing, general ledger accounting, and 1099 submissions. Prefer 3 year’s experience in a Church as full charge bookkeeper.
