TOSA, Instructional- Director of Nursing Education Programs
Duties:
The Practical Nursing faculty member is responsible for assisting with the planning, implementation and evaluation of the nursing program, which includes serving as an instructor who is responsible for specific classroom courses, clinical supervision of students and counseling students.
· Designs, implements and evaluates the curriculum using a written plan.
· Plans and provides theoretical instruction and clinical or laboratory experiences which reflect an understanding of the program’s philosophy, objectives and curriculum.
· Assist in preparing course syllabi and class schedules in accordance with state and other minimum requirements.
· Select appropriate learning experiences, based on an understanding of the program’s curricular plans; selects class content and prepares lesson plans and confers with and utilizes community professionals.
· Evaluates student achievement of curricular objectives/outcomes related to nursing knowledge and practice.
· Prepares, supervises, corrects and evaluates student evaluation tools and examinations.
· Participates in academic advising and guidance of students.
· Interprets hospital/clinical facility policies for students.
· In the clinical area: cooperates with nursing staff and supervisors in carrying out medical orders and developing nursing care plans of patients assigned to students; cooperates with nursing supervisors in selecting and planning student assignments; arranges orientation of students to assigned clinical areas; assists students in integrating theory to clinical situations/application; supervises nursing care given by students; conducts planned clinical conferences and classes; evaluates students’ clinical performance; and keeps appropriate records.
· Participate on committees of the Faculty Organization: shares in planning and guidance of the program; shares in continuing development and evaluation of the curriculum of the school; participates in the formulation and implementation of the philosophy and objectives of the school; initiates and participates in studies for the improvement of the educational program.
· Participates in meetings, in-services, workshops and other professional meetings and acts as a resource person to members of the community and other faculty members.
Job Description and Responsibilities for Nursing Program Director:
The Nursing Director is responsible for planning, organizing, implementing, coordinating, evaluating, and instructing at the post-secondary level. This position is responsible for the professional guidance and assistance of all instructors working under their direction and will work in close consultation with the Executive Director of the College. The director will work with nursing organizations, representatives of health care facilities, representatives of health and occupational education, and members of local hospitals and long- term care facilities.
· Develops and maintains an environment conducive to the teaching/learning process.
· Develops and maintains the program relationship with the institutional administration.
· Acts as a liaison with other programs within the institution as well as with other nursing education programs.
· Participates in the development and administration of the program budget.
· Acts as a liaison with the Board of Nursing.
· Identifies and advocates for services needed by students and staff.
· Recruitment of new faculty.
· Advise with hiring and contract renewal of nursing personnel.
· Assist with the Practical Nursing Advisory Board meetings, biannually.
· Prepare and coordinate class schedules and clinical rotations for the Practical Nurse program.
· Maintain all licensing board requirements and program approvals.
· Teach all standards and requirements outlined in the individual course syllabi and program approval.
· Assist Foundations for Healthcare Professionals and adult Nurse Aide instructors.
· Demonstrates leadership within the faculty for the development, implementation and evaluation of the curriculum and other program components.
· Assist in the development and implementation of objectives.
· Organize and hold staff meetings and in-service programs.
· Responsible for disciplinary actions involving students in consultation with the Assistant Director.
· Determine the need for additional faculty release time for administrative duties.
· Be involved in nursing program and school publicity.
· Organize and set-up graduation.
· Attendance of appropriate meetings to keep the school apprised of national, state and local issues or changes.
· Fosters the program’s responsiveness to community and/or employer needs.
· Participates in activities that facilitate the Director of the Nursing Education Program (DNEP’s) professional expertise in the areas of administration, teaching, and maintenance of nursing competence.
· Actively participate on the Council for Occupational Education (COE) committee and/or other college committee work and take the lead role in meeting the requirements for the nursing COE accreditation process.
· Evaluation of nursing personnel regarding nursing content delivery.
· Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director or appointed designees.
Classroom duties include:
· Develop and coordinate the use of educational facilities.
· Preparation, instruction, testing, and tutoring students.
· Course description and objectives of assigned courses.
· Schedule speakers for classes.
· Maintain student databases aligned with Perkins and COE requirements.
Clinical duties include:
· Develop and coordinate the use of clinical resources.
· Organize and set up clinical sites and rotations.
· Maintain public relations with clinical facilities.
· Counseling and discipline as needed.
· Liaison between facilities, instructors, and students.
· Maintain contracts and legal obligations to facilities.
· Assist nursing clinical faculty as needed.
Job Qualifications:
· Successful candidate must possess or be eligible to obtain a Colorado Department of Education (CDE) teaching license, a Colorado Career and Technical Education (CTE) credential (full time secondary/postsecondary).
· Must be a registered nurse with a current, unencumbered Colorado license in good standing.
· Master’s degree in nursing required.
· Possesses sufficient education, experience and/or training to be approved by the Board of Practical Nursing and must be qualified for Career and Technical Education (CTE) credentialing.
· Minimum of three full years of recent experience: minimum of two of these years in direct patient care and preferably one year’s experience in nursing service (i.e., head nurse, supervisor, etc.).
· Demonstrates good fundamental nursing knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge, with interest in expanding.
· Ability to work with minimal direct supervision, demonstrating ability to plan, initiate and evaluate educational/clinical programs, or ideas.
· Ability to function positively and productively as a team member, with ability to be an active open participant.
· Good basic counseling skills-extra course work in this area is encouraged.
· Professional liability insurance recommended.

· Documented knowledge and skills related to the teaching of adults and teaching methodology as well as curriculum development and evaluation.
· Leadership abilities.
· Proficiency in Microsoft applications.
· Strong organizational skills.
Education and Licensure:
· Minimum master’s degree in nursing from an accredited college or university. Master’s in education preferred
· Holds a Colorado teaching license or is currently eligible for one with the appropriate endorsement for this position.
· A completed Human Resources file including transcripts, student teaching verification, previous work experience.
Condition of Employment:
· As a condition of employment, the individual selected for this position will be expected to complete the APS-sponsored Linguistically Diverse Educator (LDE) Certificate Program within the first three years of employment.
