RG and Associates, LLC (RGA) is a Mid-size Civil Engineering and Planning firm which has been in business for over 30 years. We offer engineering, planning and construction management services. The demand for our total municipal planning services is increasing and we are seeking an experienced Planner to join our team. This individual will assist our municipal planners by providing planning services for 30 plus municipal clients throughout Colorado, performing such duties as may be set forth in the City's/Town's Comprehensive Plans, Zoning Ordinances, Subdivision Regulations, and other applicable City/Town codes. The Municipal Planner will also provide short-term and long-term planning recommendations for client communities, including updates to and development of Comprehensive Plans, coordinate, review, and process various land use applications, and any additional planning matters as directed.

Office Location

RGA is headquartered in Wheat Ridge, Colorado with offices in Del Norte and Silverthorne. This planning position will be based out of the Wheat Ridge, Colorado office.

Essential Duties:

• Meet with and assist citizens with zoning, planning and building questions.

• Perform complex and sensitive professional planning tasks such as project review, research, and analysis.

• Meet with and assist applicants through the development review process for specific project submittals; such as, (annexations, zoning cases, planned unit developments, preliminary/final plats, preliminary/final site development plans, use by special review, variances and alike.

• Review and prepare reports on zoning and land use applications.

• Make appropriate presentations before elected and appointed municipal boards and commissions.

• Travel to clients for on-site meetings with staff, planning commission and governing council body, or for evening meetings up to 50% of the time.

• Advise various councils, boards, commissions and elected officials in planning-related issues.

• Participate in long range planning initiatives such as comprehensive plans, code updates and master plans with communities, stakeholders, elected and appointed officials, and other governmental entities.

Knowledge Required:

• Demonstrated knowledge of methods and techniques of effective technical report preparation and presentation.

• Demonstrated knowledge of urban planning, land use application review, and land development processes, etc. in Colorado.

• Thorough knowledge of Colorado Revised Statutes pertaining to planning at the municipal and county level.

• Thorough knowledge of or experience within a planning specialty area such as; housing, zoning, historic preservation, economic development, and or urban design.

• Proficiency with computer hardware and software programs, including Microsoft Office, internet applications, database management, GIS, sketch-up, Adobe suite, or other illustrative programs. Understanding of project management and budgeting procedures and techniques.

Skills Required:

• Driven and a self-starter. Someone willing to contribute time, skills and management to the broad range of public planning services offered at RGA.

• Strong customer service and communication skills.

• Capable of managing multiple, high-priority assignments. Must have excellent public speaking and presentation skills.

• Strong interpersonal skills to develop good working relationships at various levels and to resolve complaints.

• Strong analytical skills to interpret research data for reports. Reading comprehension to understand technical and legal materials.

• Ability to work on several projects or issues simultaneously in different jurisdictions.

• Ability to read and interpret site and engineering plans and drawings for compliance.

• Ability to manage projects effectively and meet firm deadlines and budgets.

• Works well in a team setting, but also independently.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Five to eight years of municipal planning experience.

• Minimum of Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in planning, urban development, engineering, GIS or related field.

• Master's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in planning, public administration, geography or related field preferred.

• Experience creating, manipulating, and analyzing geospatial data using ArcGIS preferred.

• Small, rural community development, development review and/or planning experience preferred.

• AICP or ability to obtain AICP within 1 year of employment preferred.

• Any combination of education and experience will be considered.

Additional Requirements:

• Valid Colorado driver's license or ability to obtain one and have reliable transportation.
