The University of Colorado is currently looking for people who are overweight and would like to reduce or stop drinking for a research study examining the effect of a medication (semaglutide) on alcohol use.
This research study should take about 11 weeks of your time. You will be asked to visit the clinic about 8 times (possibly a few more) and there is a follow-up phone call at the end of the study.
During the course of the research study, you will have a physical exam and lab tests, give urine and blood samples, do alcohol breathalyzer tests, answer questions and complete questionnaires, have two fMRI scans, and take study medication. You will also use a Smartphone to get reminders to take the study medication and record yourself taking the medication each day.
Inclusion criteria:
- Age 21 or older
- Drink regularly and meet criteria for Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD)
- Interested in reducing or stopping your alcohol use
- Overweight (body mass index of 25 or higher)
Not everyone will qualify to be in the study. Other inclusion and exclusion criteria will be evaluated by the study team.
