POSITION PURPOSE: Operate mowers, trimmers, leaf blowers, and other small equipment for maintaining grounds and parks. Works under the supervision of the manager of parks and grounds.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position will perform ground maintenance tasks (mow, trim, prune plants, and maintain landscape materials).

The landscape/grounds apprentice will respond to and resolve work requests, complaints, or other conditions as they arise.

Help lead and train part-time/seasonal staff.

The landscape/grounds apprentice will be expected to assist other maintenance staff with facility repairs when weather precludes outdoor work and during winter months.

Winter duties will include but are not limited to basic maintenance of ground equipment, preparation of supplies and equipment for spring startup, painting within district facilities, snow removal, and assisting other maintenance staff with repair tasks.

As a member of the district services division, this position will involve direct contact with other district staff and guests to resolve maintenance needs. It is expected that all interactions will represent the district services division and the district in a positive manner.

SUPERVISORY DUTIES: Part-time and seasonal staff.

Job Qualifications:

Good working knowledge of small hand tools.

Basic knowledge of and ability to operate vehicles and tractors.

Basic knowledge of walking behind and riding lawnmowers, trimmers, and other lawn equipment.

Ability to see sound judgment and make good decisions in a stressful situation.

Ability to adjust to frequent changes in job priorities and situations demanding immediate attention.

Ability to communicate challenges to supervisor and manage properties.

Ability to work independently and as a team.

Ability to interact with others tactfully.

Education and Experience: Must be 18. High school diploma or equivalent. Must possess a current and valid Colorado driver’s license.

Work Environment: The job is outside 75% of the time in all weather conditions.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES: Must be able to walk, stand, bend, and kneel. Must be able to lift 50 pounds regularly and more occasionally.

TRAVEL: Travel outside the district may be required for meetings or training.
