UTILTIY OPERATOR SUPERVISOR
Classification: Non-Exempt Pay Range: $36.06/hr-$52.88/hr
JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Summary
The Utility Operator Supervisor is head of maintenance at the District and holds a class 2 water distribution system operators license and class 2 waster water collection system license. This position oversees daily maintenance operations and is responsible for supervising, training and directly maintenance staff. Oversees and performs filed activities related to the operation and maintenance of the District’s water and sewer system. Responds to emergency related tasks. Operates water valves and hydrants of the distribution system and isolates mains. Conducts water quality investigations per customer request. Reviews inspections on District system and service lines. Reports to the ORC, Assistant Manager, and District Manager.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position supervises maintenance staff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Attend developer and contractor meetings. Reads and interprets plans and specifications.
Interpret maps to oversee main and tap installations in district boundaries.
Observes main installations and repairs.
Institutes changes to District Rules and Regulations.
Create incident reports on water main breaks, sewer back ups, property damage, property intrusion, etc.
Works with District engineer(s).
Familiar with procedures of related agencies.
Maintains District backflow program.
Oversees daily maintenance operations.
Supervises, trains, and directs maintenance staff.
Hires and directs contractors installing/maintaining/repairing District system.
Purchases parts and supplies.
Supervises/operates valves and hydrants on District system.
Oversees locating District utilities.
Oversees monthly meter reading, drive by system, weekly non-potable meter reads, customer profiles and analysis, and final meter readings.
Oversees inspection of water and sewer installations and repairs, prepare inspection reports.
Oversees meter/yoke/remote change outs.
Must be able to move meter pit lids up to 80 pounds.
Must be able to ascend/descend ladders in vaults.
Must be able to enter confined spaces.
Maintenance of District property, equipment, and wells.
Drive District looking for water waste, non-licenses contractors, and illegal use of District hydrants and system.
On call after hours on rotating schedule, respond to emergency after hours calls.
Physical labor is required to perform duties of this position.
Annual inventory count.
Pick-up/received parts.
Oversees posting of customer past due notices.
Attend monthly Board meetings.
Perform related work as required.
Minimum Requirements
High School Diploma or GED
Minimum 5 years of related work experience.
Holds and maintains clean driving record.
Operates vehicles courteously and safely exercising defensive driving skills.
Comply with OSHA safety standards dealing with open ditches, confined spaces, and general safety in the field.
Water distribution system class 2 operator’s license.
Wastewater collection system class 2 license.
Knowledge of Denver Water engineering standards.
Any equivalent combination of certifications, education, or experience that provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities for the position.
