Weed Technician I

This position performs specialized work coordinating a variety of tasks associated with weed management on the Public Works Operations Department Weed Crew.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (The following examples are illustrative only and are not intended to be all inclusive.)

Acts as coordinator for weed spraying, weed mowing, and other functions associated with weed control on County right-of-way and County lands.

Prepares estimates/orders on chemicals for weed control projects. Works with inventory, supplies, and equipment relating to weed control projects.

Interprets weed maps and assists in preparing weed management plan.

Assists in resolving citizen complaints.

Assists in prioritizing weed management projects.

Operates various types of spraying, chemical mixing, and mowing equipment.

May require on-call hours in emergency situations.

Snow removal duties will be assigned

Performs equipment operator duties when not assigned to specific weed control duties. Must be available and remain trained for snow removal operations.

May coordinate contractors.

Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: A high school diploma or GED and 2 years of related experience in the field of weed control.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS:

Must possess a valid State of Colorado Commercial Driver License Class B upon hire, with complying insurance. Review of motor vehicle record is required at time of hire and periodically throughout employment. Incumbent is expected to obtain a Commercial Driver License Class A to achieve career progression in this classification series. Incumbents in this position must meet the Department of Transportation physical exam and drug and alcohol testing requirements.

Must obtain Flagger Certification when offered by Department.

Within 6 months obtain a State Department of Agriculture Qualified Operator’s License in Rangeland Pest, Industrial and Right-of-way required.

Within 6 months obtain a State Department of Agriculture Qualified Operator’s License in Agriculture Weed, and Forest Pest Categories preferred.

When training is offered applicant must complete assigned training as required by the Department.
