Full-Time Caregiver Needed Autistic Male

Full-Time Caregiver Needed – Gentle, Supportive Role for Adult with Special Needs (Denver, CO)

We’re seeking a deeply compassionate, emotionally steady full-time caregiver to support a kind, highly sensitive adult with profound support needs. This is a hands-on, heart-centered role in a calm, structured home environment. The right person will be nurturing, reliable, and naturally supportive—not just task-oriented, but someone who truly sees the person they’re caring for.

About the individual:

He is a bright, articulate adult with autism (Level 3), sensory sensitivities, trauma history, and a PDA (Pathological Demand Avoidance) profile. Though capable in some areas, he experiences severe emotional overwhelm, shutdowns, dissociation, executive dysfunction, and frequent distress. While he functions independently much of the time, when he crashes, he crashes hard—becoming nonverbal, immobile, incontinent, and unable to meet basic needs without support.

He wears diapers 24/7 due to incontinence. Diaper changes may be required occasionally during shutdowns or at other times when support is needed.

He thrives in a low-demand, sensory-friendly space with a caregiver who leads with empathy, praise, patience, and kindness. Encouragement, emotional validation, and gentle co-regulation are essential. Punishment, scolding, or power struggles are never appropriate.

He is a large adult male and can appear physically intimidating when dysregulated, especially during shutdowns or verbal outbursts. However, he has never harmed anyone and needs someone who can remain calm, not take things personally, and gently support him back to a regulated state with reassurance and presence.

He is actively looking for a home in the Denver area and needs a caregiver to support him in a stable environment. This is not a live-in role for the caregiver, but eventual live-in support from a trusted person may be explored once a strong relationship is built.

Your responsibilities will include:

Daily Living Support

Helping with hygiene, dressing, and incontinence care (diaper changes required occasionally during shutdowns or when needed)

Medication management: prompting, organizing, administering, and picking up prescriptions

Preparing meals/snacks and encouraging healthy eating

Supporting a calming bedtime routine and sleep regulation

Home & Organizational Tasks

Full housekeeping: dishes, vacuuming, bathrooms, general cleaning

Laundry: washing, folding, putting away clothes and linens

Grocery shopping, errands, and home organization

Maintaining a shared calendar of appointments and reminders

Supporting with paperwork and basic scheduling tasks

Emotional & Safety Support

Providing calm companionship and reassurance during shutdowns and distress

Monitoring for dissociation, wandering, or safety risks (full-time with on-call availability preferred)

Responding to emotional crises with kindness, praise, and co-regulation

Encouraging self-esteem through validation, positive reinforcement, and emotional attunement

Community & Social Integration

Accompanying to doctor’s appointments and errands

Encouraging safe, structured community participation (e.g., nature walks, quiet coffee shops, supported volunteering, the zoo)

Helping build gentle steps toward social confidence without pressure

Offering prompts for social connection (e.g., “Would you like to say hi to them or wave from here?”)

Ideal caregiver qualities:

Warm, emotionally grounded, and encouraging

Not afraid of verbal outbursts—can stay calm and centered in the face of distress

Can offer simple choices and praise, such as “Do you want to shower now or after breakfast?” or “Would you rather go to Chipotle or Applebee’s?”

Familiar with co-regulation and sensory needs, or willing to learn

Comfortable with full personal care and household support

Gentle, responsive presence—especially important during shutdowns or emotional collapse

Has a supportive, nurturing style without being controlling—offers guidance like a firm and kind companion would

Ideally neurotypical and able to help guide social situations and encourage social engagement

Trauma-informed with healthy emotional boundaries

Other important details:

Must be able to drive—especially for occasional trips to visit his daughter in the mountains, where support is also needed to navigate social interactions

No CNA certification required—experience with caregiving is a plus, but what matters most is emotional steadiness, consistency, and natural nurturing instincts

This is a long-term role—building trust and safety is a gradual process, and the ideal caregiver will be someone truly invested in connection, not just tasks

Job Details:

Location: Denver, CO (specific home not yet secured)

Hours: Full-time with on-call availability preferred

Pay: Private pay, rate negotiable based on experience

Background check and references required

This is not a clinical or task-only role—it’s about building safety, trust, and connection. If you’re someone who believes caregiving is about dignity, compassion, and bringing calm to someone who’s endured far too much, we’d love to hear from you.

Please reply with a little about yourself, your experience, and your availability. Also include what area of town you live in, and whether you are open to future live-in possibilities once trust is built.
